Hi Guys/Gals, will be picking my GTi up in a couple of days.
I know the rust topic has been done to death from the searches I have done. But I can't find a definitive list with rust prevention measures that you can do to stop the need to get VW involved.
The rust I know/ have read about:

Front arches- Foam and arch liner rubbing the arch. Trimming the arch liner and foam and under sealing the arch?
 Sill rust- ?
 Boot badge Rust- ?
 Rear wing- ?
 Any other areas?
Does anyone know the causes of the other rust issues and possible preventions?
 Thanks in advance.

Rust around the wheel arches usually starts due to the build up of dirt etc that holds moisture, its not the only thing that causes it but is a big contributing factor.
The foam front liners hold lots of moisture, I took them out of my Passat as they were like a wet sponge.
Its very hard to stop it once it has set in, a good clean now and again helps, and the use of a good quality wax treatment from the likes of dinitrol or bilt hamber sprayed around the arches every year or so helps keep it at bay.
