I have a blueflame decat turbo back exhaust with a resonator and muffler. When off the throttle and coasting, there is a rattling type sound. As soon as back on the accelerator the noise disappears. I've seen a few times about parts of the resonator or muffler breaking off internally which is what I think has happened here. I havent any real experience with exhaust systems, is it possible to remove the resonator and muffler and "open up" to find a cause, or do I just have to buy new sections?

Not a loose heat shield is it? If not, then yeah, you'll have to cut the silencer open and reweld the perforated tube back solid.
Personally speaking, I'd bin it and get something better which is less likely to fall to bits in the first place

Well im only going on the fact that it ONLY does it when coasting, not on throttle. So it is pressure activated rather then movement activated if that makes sense. Could be wrong, so will check heat shields, thanks. Will other brand resonators fit? By fit something better, do you mean fit a better resonator? I was under the impression blueflame were a reputable company. Just to clarify, when I said I’d seen this type of failure on other exhausts, I was actually referring to other brand exhausts, haven’t found an example of it happening with a Blueflame

Had a look under today and its missing a number of the circular fasteners for the heat shield. So thats looking like it could be the cause after all. Im assuming you can just get them from VW/ TPS...

Part number is N90335005 if it is the one I'm thinking of...?

Cheers Dan! Just need to get some nuts to go on as well. Assume they can be any old nuts
-
Nuts? for what? May have provided the wrong number if you need nuts to fasten it......
-
Well I think (might be wrong) that the correct arrangement is - the threaded shank protrudes through the heat shield, the fastener goes over the shank, and against the heatshield, with a nut that then tightens against the fastener and heathsield.
Ill have another look today to clarify.
