				Hi All,

Just picked up a Cat C ED30 out of an auction. Always wanted the mk5 GTI but never been able to afford one till now.

Picked up a 2007 (004/1500) ED30, hit from the front but its been repaired. Manual, 115k on the clock, no details of previous services. Its got a standard GTI bumper at the front, presuming the original one got busted in the crash. The car has a Forge blowoff valve, Ramair oil catch can, a straight pipe exhaust (too loud for comfort) and a missing induction kit (I presume a ramair one that has been taken off)

Driven it back and thought the first thing I should do is service it (cambelt change is imminent). 2 spark plug chambers had oil in them (2 and 3), number 3 had broken seal pulled out along with the spark plug. number 1 has metal shavings in it, reckon the coils gone.

I've taken a huge risk buying this and now i'm screwed. Need urgent guidance on what I should do with this car and what my checklist should be, to assess this completely unknown and mysterious car.  :scared:

Any advice/tips would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'd cut my losses tbh. I'm sorry but it sounds like it's not been looked after particularly well and it will probably cost more to put right than buying a decent one in the first place. I know I'm sounding pessimistic but I've been there before chucking Good money after bad on a car and when I think now about how much I spent I could weep. Just my honest opinion, good luck whatever you decide to do.

				Break it for parts

-
Think I would be breaking it for parts

-
Not the news I was after. *sigh*

Does anybody know of any decent mechanics/garages in the east london/essex region I could show for final thoughts on the matter ?

 cheers again

Problem is metal swarf to me says terminal engine wear :-(
-
I doubt I can get away with replacing the engine head or something ?

I've put too much emotional energy into getting a hold of this car, dont want to let it go without a strong effort. It drove down from the auction perfectly fine, 140 miles. Schrodingers cat here  :sad1:

what did you pay for it ?

your looking at around £1500 plus labour for a used engine to be fitted

-
I picked it up for £4600, 115 on the clock.

I've got the rocker head cover/gasket changed and went ahead with the service. I'll see if it can give me the much hoped fun for a few months and will sell it on before it eventually comes to bite me.

Viking death it, at £4600 you could probably part it out and break even or at least a small loss

That is a crazy price for a Cat C from an auction.

You can pick up a hpi clear with high miles for 5.5kish.

Strip it. Dont bother repairing it
