Title: rusty stonechip
Post by: spesh on April 15, 2017, 10:24:47 am
So I need to deal with this before it gets worse, pretty much the only one on the car like this.  I've got the VW touch up kit but the fact that this has turned a little brown has me bothered.  I was thinking abrasive pencil to clean it out, primer pencil and then use the VW touch up kit as normal with a wee flat down and buff afterwards.   Does that sound reasonable?

How about a spot of rust converter too? Go easy with it, otherwise it can discolour the paint

I use POR 15 metal prep. Use a cotton bud to cover the area and it converts the rust and puts on a zinc coating. Once dry touch in as normal.

I use Krust on rusty stone chips to chemically convert the rust, after 3hrs or so you can then use touch up.
