Title: Faulty driver window
Post by: romprod on April 19, 2017, 12:19:58 pm
Hey guys

I bought a car recently and tested all of the electric windows which all worked. Now a few days after the drivers window won't wind down.

The only change on the car before I noticed the fault was to remove and then re-insert the headlight switch so I could check the model number.

Currently only the drivers window fails to lower. When I try the switch I can hear a soft clicking noise every time like I do with the other windows, but it doesn't even start to move. I can't hear any motor noises either.

Is there a way to reset this window somehow or do I need to start removing the door panel to take a look at the wires etc?

I have just tried a new MK6 chrome window switch set, but the fault still remains on the drivers window.

Thanks.

To reset the windows you push down for 10 seconds pull up for 10 push down for 10 and then up for 10.

This resets them and re-syncs them.

Can't comment on the rest

Try holding the unlock button on the key if it comes down there is nothing wrong with the fuse

The window has 2 supplies to it you may have blown the fuse, check the window fuses in the fuse box on the drivers side of the dash.

if the window isn't working holding the button as in post 2 will do nothing as it only sets the limits of up down.

other than that just like all modern cars it will needs scanning so get a VCDS scan to tell you the problem

Fuses all checked and intact.

Tried holding the buttons as instructed with no discernible outcome, nothing happens at all!

I'll have to have it VCDS checked at a garage etc

Don't have to be at a garage, plenty of people with scanners or vcds to read codes, see if anyone is near you on here, check the owners registerer sorry I don't have a link
