Hello all,
I'm cursing myself as I managed to scratch the plastic surround that is around the base of my DSG lever. I was trying to lift the trim to fit a cubby hole with the aluminium folding lid, rather than the pathetic plastic tub that I got on my late Edition 30. Earlier cars have the ashtray cover at least, and the nicer sliding cover for the centre cupholders. I will replace those too in time, but could anyone help with a part no for the plastic trim base?
I will go to VW eventually, but just wondering if anyone had the part no? Have been searching ebay with no luck so far... Has anyone got a mint unmarked one you'd like to sell?!
Cheers,
Dave

This should help

Many thanks - I appreciate that!
The one on ebay looks ruined, but the part no is a help - I'll keep searching for this part no for a while, and then if I feel flush I'll go to VW (nutter...!)
Still annoyed that I damaged it, even using trim tools. Should have used a cover on the tool to help...

You can't buy the surround on it's own from VW. A private seller might do that, as I did with my old one. To solve this issue I bought a new mk6 R DSG lever that comes with the surround. I later sold the lever on its own to a friend and replaced my lightly damaged surround. After +1 year of having my lightly damaged surround for sale I finally sold it too.

Thanks Shoduchi - not what I wanted to hear, but after looking at how these are connected into the centre console, it's no wonder people can't get them out easily. VW's huge number of hidden clips as usual!
I'll keep looking for a used one - mine isn't bad at all (most people wouldn't notice or care), but now it's not 'perfect' it annoys me!

Glad this came up at the right time - I need to replace my surround too. Was a little worn on the far edge when I bought the car but managed to scratch it pretty badly (badly enough for my OCD to go mad!) at the weekend.
Does anyone know if you can buy carbon skinned ones etc from somewhere??

What about separating it and coating it with plasti dip? should get you that oem look for cheaper

Hey willni - yes, I've thought of that, but then thought it would make it look even worse if it isn't a perfect match...
I'm leaving it for now, and just keep checking on ebay - think it could be a while as most are well mullered!

Contact @monte (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=878) . He knows how to wrap it really well. :happy2:

Understandable, what if you didn't go for a match though? change it to full silver or gloss black so it looks original but won't try and keep matchign with the rest of the interior
