Title: Where to buy the NGK-BKR7EIX spark plugs today?
Post by: fazi123 on April 24, 2017, 10:16:05 am
Hi guys,

My cars got a misfire on bank 4, and I replaced the coil pack and it hasn't cured it. I can only assume it is the spark plug.

I'm interested in the NGK-BKR7EIX as they seem like what a lot of guys on here are running, but need to buy them today. I'm based in London - so somewhere close will be helpful :)

Thanks,
Faz

More likely to be an injector than a spark plug.

Do you have a part number Rich? I haven't been able to find them when putting my reg in :sad1:

What makes you think this? My symptoms are constant rough running when idle, and when trying to move. I've read another thread on here (I think it was @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) thread) but his symptoms which were somewhat cured by refurbished injectors were seemingly different.

You wrote the part number in your first post... just ring your local branch up and see if they have them in.

Injector 4 rough idle. Quite common for some reason.

If you want some of those plugs I've got a new set I can send out, but not until the end of the week.

I managed to get a set of these NGK plugs yesterday afternoon :)

Pleased to say the roughness / misfire is completely cured. I've driven about 70 miles since the change and it's running sweet again :)

When doing the change, I did notice that spark plug number 4 (it was the one situated furthest right when looking under the bonnet) was burnt out. The other 3 still had some unburnt material on them so I'm hoping it was just this that was causing the lack of 'spark'/

Thanks for the offer @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) - Much appreciated bud!

Thanks for your input on my issue guys :)

I'll be sure to update this thread if the misfire comes back anytime soon.

Post a pic of plug 4.  "Burnt out" doesn't sound very good at all!

Glad things seem better for now @fazi123

But... (and I agree with Pud that this warrants further investigation)

Why's the plug fouled? Is it orange?

A knackered plug might be a symptom of an issue rather than a cause. Definitely post up a pic.

If you've been going lean on 4 a new plug is not the fix.

Hi,

Please find pics to show what I meant by "Burnt out".

First 2 from the Drivers side of the engine - the tips are "cleaner".
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp482%2Ffaz12321%2F23ED5C2C-BA37-4447-8C80-CD0B25CEF900_zpsmbzb5uzi.jpg&hash=34ab6648b903284c8af22efc056b9aa194125aab)

Second 2 from the passenger side show the 4th one with a burnt out tip

Let me know if you guys think there's anything untoward aside from one of the spark plugs being effectively "dead".

Just to add these are ~18k miles old and were put in about 600 miles before I went to R-Tech for a stage 1 when I had completed a full service with cam belt & cam chain etc.

Are they OEM plugs or aftermarket?

Number 4 is oil fouled, which is explains why it eventually gave up sparking.   I think that cylinder needs a compression test / inspection because it's burning quite a bit of oil.   Hope it's not a broken piston ring land.  Seems to be very common on the TFSI group these days, especially on Stage 2 and above cars.

The current plugs are OEM or equivelant -

This is what the garage (Audi/VW specialist) fitted when doing my service just over a year ago.

Would I have any other symptoms for a broken piston ring? It drives absolutely spot on and has been absolutely perfect aside from the day the spark plug gave up.

Might not be a cracked ring land then if it's driving OK, but worth compression checking cyl 4 and comparing to the other 3.  That cylinder is definitely burning more oil than the other 3 though.

as promised I will update this when I know a bit more!

@Pudding (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10733) you were right.... it was the injector. I had the compression tests done, and all 4 cylinders were holding the same pressure so that was a good sign.

I had all my injectors taken off and sent to Mr Injector (Thanks to an @AJP (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11926) thread) and for £112 I had a full set of renewed injectors.

While it was at the garage I also had the carbon cleaned - The car feels SOOO much better for it. I picked it up yesterday and it was soo quiet I had to double check it was actually started :)

Thanks for all your help guys!

Glad to hear it's all sorted. Injector faults seem to be getting more common as these cars get on a bit!
