Title: How to freshen up powder coated calipers
Post by: croak2012 on April 24, 2017, 06:44:31 pm
Hi  ,
Can you make old  powder coat look good again?   Not sure if they will look good if i paint o ver them  with a paint brush. I  could get them powder coated but not sure i would be able to put them back together with service.. thanks

Paint brush will look ridiculous unless you're handy enough with it.

You have two options.

Option 1:
Remove them, strip paint and redo the setup

Option 2:
Mask off in situ and spray paint them with VHT which gives an even coat.
I've done mine twice in 4 years.
It's somewhere in my thread - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,89715.msg907250.html#msg907250

I would sand the powder cost to give the paint something to adhere to

Also, be very carefull of overspray. I had a friend who painted his scirocco calipers red. Wasn't particularly windy and he newspaper/masked off well. He still gets a red clay bar apaprently!

How to do it...give it to a company who know what they are doing with them.
I'm lazy like that
