Hi all,
Just bought a Mk5 GTI and loving it so far... apart from the standard stereo.
I'm after an OEM-looking stereo that has bluetooth audio and DAB radio, not bothered about sat-nav.
What are my options and how much am I looking at for installation? Would it need an adapter to stop battery drain and a new aerial etc.?
Cheers.

Alex (tagged above) has radios for sale.
Can supply and fit gateway too

Hi
I sell and fit OEM headunits.
There is only one radio with all of that functions. RNS315 has BT, DAB and satnav.
If you looking just for DAB radio than RCD510 but than you will need separate BT module and wiring.
So really depends what you want.
Drain depends of year of the car. Later 57 plate and above dont have that problem. Anything below you will need new gateway.
I supply and fit all of the parts. Please inbox me if interested.

It's letting me send PMs to other members though, hmm...?
What's the satnav like on the RNS315? I usually use Waze or Google maps on iPhone.

Depends on what maps are on it, 7th version and on maps are very good. I have one with the very first maps on it and they're crap

Ive just fitted an rns315 dab with v7 maps & a polo shark fin aerial & im very impressed plus the dab - satnav - phone kit & fm / am are all running through the roof aerial so great coverage.
The dab is a big plus for me as it means i ant got to listen to all this modern pop crap anymore, bring on the 80's tunes :jumpmove:

That is what I'm after! Where did you get the unit from and which shark fin aerial is it? Searching on ebay it brings up hundreds...

Hello chaps,
Just reading the above thread and I'm in exactly the same position. I'm looking to replace the current, standard, head unit and the rns315 sounds what I'm looking for. I've got a mk5 (58 plate) so this battery drain issue wouldn't be present right?
Appreciate any feedback! First post newb here.

You'll get battery drain with the rns 315 all 2nd gen versions give battery drain, so will need a canbus upgrade alternatively you can get an rns510 and have it coded not to drain the battery

Thats not 100% accurate. Some late 07's and later had the correct revision canbus to avoid battery drain, so he could just have a look at his canbus gateway first to find out. Obviously the easiest way is to scan with VCDS and find out, alternatively he could just physically find it, remove it, and check.

Ha ha. I had a March 07 gateway, but decided to swap it out in advance just in case. The car is used almost daily, so didn't want to take the risk. I guess it might be worth "something" after all.

Appreciate the replys!
Now this is going to sound, probably, very dumb... How do I check the relevant canbus version I have? I've actually opted for a rns 310 now and I believe it's going to be coded.

You have basically 2 options. If you have VCDS you can scan it for the part number. But that won't give you a build date if it's a K version. If you are getting the radio coded in, you can scan at the same time.
Or else you can physically take it out and have a look. Mine was way behind the fuse box. On other cars it might be above the clutch pedal (or where that might have been if a dsg car). Or it may be somewhere else.
