I made some enquiries at my local VW dealers about getting servicing and some others works done through them. I was told I could get through their servicing plan 2 x full services and 2 x MOTs for £399, and if I didn't do many miles (I do about 8k per annum) I could transfer my servicing to long life for the same price. Seems a good deal to me but what are people's experienced of using VW for servicing and MOT? I had a bad experience with Toyota with a previous car and am a bit cynical of using dealers for things like MOTs now.
I was also told if I signed up I would get 10% off any other works I had done with them. They quoted £399 for cam belt and water pump and £179 for DSG gearbox service which will make the total cost of these a bit easier to swallow with the 10% off, also the cam belt would have 5 yr warranty.
All sounds good on paper but I thought I'd get people's opinions on here first, thanks.

Seems like a very good deal to me. MOTs are 50 quid each and major services are normally £329. You might want to double check they mean minor or major services because that deal seems to good to be true.
As for the quality of VW servicing, obviously they use genuine parts which is reassuring, but the workmanship can vary from dealer to dealer. I found a good one locally but as is always the case, complacency sets in, new staff come in and standards slip considerably, so make sure you dust off your complaining hat and use it if need be.....and tweet about your experiences because companies will only respond to bad press on social media these days it seems. If you email, phone or write them......you get blanked/shrugged off. A very public "You're crap" seems to oil the customer service wheels a lot more.
Anyway, if that deal is for 2 x MOT and 2 x 'Major' services......bite their hand off!

Yeah I'm a bit confused by what they meant by "full". The advisor said it would cover everything listed in the service schedule booklet, including the standard (e.g. oil change) and Additional Jobs (e.g. spark plugs) listed. However in their leaflet they describe a minor and major service which differs to what is listed in the book. Will give them a bell tomorrow to clarify.

The service package is often one minor & one major service. Dealers charge £50-55 for an MOT.
I've been paying £30 at VW recently.
After 3 years they offer fixed price servicing as do Seat & Skoda, which is often cheaper, so I ask for VW to price match. If you ask you often get discount.
DSG is quite expensive as the oil is a lot in itself so not managed discount on that, but everything else they are often cheaper than my local vag specialist.

Just double check dates.
VW in Ireland only offer this service for cars less than 10 years old.

I took up a 1 x Major, 1 x Minor + 2 MOT's for a similar price last year.
You should note that when you sign up for this, you won't get the same paperwork (invoice), however your book will be stamped and you'll get a letter from the dealer saying a 'Full Service / Minor Service' has been carried out.

We've been taking similar servicing plans for the first 6 of 7 years we have had the car but due to the age of the car (march 2007 model) we were unable to renew it last year. Something about the car must be under 10 years at the end of the plan so read the small print.
The service agent stared processing it but the computer said no. Missed it by a week.

I asked again about the type of service I would get and while they didn't use the terms minor or major they said everything would be covered in the service schedule except the brake fluid change (see pic below), and this would be the same for both services.
My car is over 10 years old but they didn't mention anything about that being a problem. Knowing my luck with cars however I have probably been screwed over somehow and have just paid £399 to have my air filter changed twice! :grin:
