Title: Mk7 Key
Post by: Hendry on May 05, 2017, 05:45:30 pm
Just wondering if its possible to get a MK7 flip key fob working on a MK5? do they share the same immobiliser transponder in the glass veil? are the remote buttons programmable. I realise id need to get one with the same frequency of remote as my current one. If the remote part works but theres a different type of immobiliser transponder chip, can i remove the one from my mk5 key and put it in the mk7 one?

Would like to know before I go ahead with getting new keys as my originals are both very worn and tired looking.

Interesting idea.  Wouldn't mind knowing this too.

If it can't be done and you want to replace your MK5 key, I sorted one through VW last week.  £230 all in inc programming. Takes about 7 days to order in from Germany.

I know you can get them cheaper from ebay etc, but I've seen them and they're not a patch on the real deal.

Ideally wanting a genuine mk7 key with the VW logo on the right of the key rather than the centre, also dont want to be taking keys apart etc, just want to know if i can buy a brand new uncut uncoded mk7 key and have it cut, coded and programmed to fit my locks, immobiliser and remote central locking.

Genuine mk7 Keys isn't anything you'll be able to do since the shape of the electronics and so isn't anything you can do. Mk7 uses another type of immoral than mk5 do.

So even if you could get your VW dealer to cut a mk7 blade to fit you're mk5 the immo has to be changed. This is some I won't recommend since you have to open the mk7 case that are glued very well together..

In other words.. If you want a mk7 style key fob buy from the link I gave you hehe

Just seems very expensive for whats probably just a new black case, im assuming you reuse your old immob chip and circuit board, ie the expensive bits.

Yes everything is reused. However it's kinda like the only option unless the "bentley" fob there is aviable for our mk5s...

Seriously doubt that your VW dealer will help you.. even just if you want to have a mk7 cutters to fit a mk5. Also think the mk7 blades are a bit shorter than ours (this i'm not totally sure about though)

You wouldn't be able to get an uncut key from vw for a mk7. They are ordered to chassis number and come pre-cut.

OK so weve established a mk7 one wont work, what about a Polo one?

It would appear that the current shape Polo from 2010 up until 2014 shared the same keys as the mk5/6 Golf and most of the rest of the VW range, however the Polo underwent a mild facelift in 2014, basically redesigned bumpers and lights, more piano black and chrome splashes throughout the cabin but otherwise identical to the pre-2014 models, however the facelift also changed the key from the mk5/6 style one to a mk7 style key, so would sourcing one of these from a Polo work on a mk5?

Yes but why is a new mk7 car newer?
How can they improve and better a 12 year old car....and why does it cost more?

I don't believe it.... !!  LoL   :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp:

I would if they were so expensive just like everything seems to be on these overpriced, overrated, badly equipped rusty VW crap! (I only have one because it was given to me for free, a free car is a free car no matter what it is)

Its a bad day when base model Astras and Focuses have MFSWs but even R32 Golfs dont, utter joke!

If you really want a mk7 style key, have a look at the custom key workshop, they do a conversion
