Hi guys, I know this has no doubt been asked before but I have been pondering. Just two weeks ago I put the car into a local vag specialist for a yearly service (minor this year), essentially this was just an oil change and of course a stamp on the book.
Now if I had done this myself I it would probably be more a major service and still save myself some cash, however I do become concerned that if and when i came to sell people want to see a stamped book! I did the last two services on my wife's fiesta using quality parts filled the book and had receipts but when we recently part ex'd it the stealer looked horrified.
Our cars are getting on now, mines 07 will it really make that much difference at sell time?

I wondered this before I did mine, mines an 06 and VW wanted £154 for an oil service so I did it myself, I changed the
Oil
Oil filter and sump plug
Fuel filter
Pollen filter
Spark plugs
PCV
Cam follower
Cleaned out my evoms intake
You'll see it on my project thread, I took pictures and printed them off and put them together with my receipt from tps and will do the same again next year. I think with these cars and at this age, people are more interested in whats been changed and at the right times rather than who did it :happy2:
-
What I ended up doing was buying all the filters, oil and spark plug's cost me about £70 all together then my local specialist charged me £40 to everything. The price VW charge just to charge just to change the oil and air filter is ridiculous in my opinion.
-
So far more than your £154 would have got you at dealers. Will take a look at your thread, and I like your thinking regarding what's been changed when rather than who.
-
Cheers Kai96, so you got the stamp! I actually enjoy doing all these little jobs to be honest but its just the resale issue.
-
A stamp isn't essential. Just keep all receipts as you would be able to tell a car enthusiast a mile off.
And any joe blogs can buy a stamp off ebay and have it engraved "john doe vag specialist"
-
As previously said as long as it's been done and you have proof it won't affect a private sale, just stealers which they'd probably just stamp regardless
-
Since I've had mine for the last 3 years everything has been done by me, have kept all the receipts in a folder an annotated the mileage and date, going to service mine on Monday just spent £117 at TPS less than half it would cost a dealer to do and piece of mind knowing it's done properly.
-
If you have the space and tools, then no reason you should do your own servicing.
Also good to have a look around and do checks while your there. At least you know it been done properly as you did it yourself
-
Yeah I got the stamp and I just kept the receipts for all the stuff I bought and popped it into the folder for future reference

Can't be all genuine stuff for that money? Oil, fuel, air and pollen filters aren't far off 70 quid on their own.

Where have you been shopping? Lol
Oil 5L (decent brand) £20
Oil filter £8
Pollen filter £7
Air filter £12
Spark plugs around £11 each
That's around £58 for decent branded service parts.

My parts from TPS;
Oil filter - £6.22
Sump plug - £2
Fuel filter - £13.04
Pollen filter - £6.02
NGK Iridium IX BKR7EIX - £28.18
Castro Edge 5w30 £31.27
All together thats £86.73 for genuine vw parts minus the air filter as I have an Evoms intake :happy2:

I always get my stuff from tps (I get10% discount) and tell my dealer to fit them
