My last car was a ford and I had to get 5w30 A1 .... which is the right one for a VW (GTI pirelli).
Just looking for a top up between services.

I used to use Castrol Edge 5W-30 Longlife III

How do you know if it's VW504? Is all edge longlife lll VW504?

Right thanks. So if I buy castrol edge longlife as a top up, does it matter if it isn't longlife in there at the minute?

I use quantum long life 3 on most of our family cars, now owned by Fuchs I believe who make very good products.
Usually available for around £20 on eBay.

Correct, Quantum used to be made by Castrol for VW, but its recently changed hands to Fuchs, so arguably a better oil now. Ive used Quantum 5w40 on my GTi for years.

Castrol is half price in Tescos at the moment 5w/30
