Hi Guys,
The Mrs was dropping the kids to school yesterday in the gti and the whole motor shut down. She managed to start it again but it sounded like a bag of nails! Green flag dropped it off at the garage we have used for years and today they have told me it is showing a fault to do with the swirl flap motor etc and the part alone will cost 700 notes. Now I have no reason to think they would be trying it on and frankly I don't know enough about motors to think that way but its going to be a pretty fat bill and after a little bit of googling around I can't find any parts for relating to the fault costing that much? But what do I know! That's why I've come here to ask the experts

Yeah you have to buy the entire intake fanimold to get the motor, hence the cost. There are probably loads of second hand ones kicking about tbh, or get one from a breakers yard.

I saw a inlet manifold going for £30 on facebook for ages. Guaranteed you can get a inlet manifold in good condition for sub £50

We're lucky with the EA113 engine as it's a rare fault. The EA888 on the other hand! The vacuum actuator breaks if you fart near it....and it's an entire manifold job again to replace a 35p part.

My intake manifold motor was replaced for £200 odd quid plus labour. Not sure if you need a whole new intake but I can be wrong.
Good luck and keep us posted.
