Title: RNS510 security code issues
Post by: v4rley on May 26, 2017, 05:15:15 pm
Purchased a RNS510, but have been supplied with the incorrect code. So questions are:

1)Can the code be changed from what it leaves the factory with?
2)What happens after the final attempt is made? Does it permanently lock?

3 attempts and then it locks you out for an hour i believe.

I recently used https://www.radiocodes.co.uk/vw-radio-codes and within 2 hours they had sent me the correct code for the unit.

Could you get the seller to refund the £16.99?

Ok, had read about the hour but wanted to make sure before being left with a brick.

Just googling came across the idea of paying for the code, will see what the seller recommends.

Weird, I've had 3 RNS510s now and not needed to put a code into any of them!

If it's an oem unit don't the stealers give you the code FOC as I had to give them the serial number on the unit or pay £35 for it if they have to remove the unit :signLOL:

It was a retrofit to the previous car so not sure if they would be able to assist or not. Also last time I spoke to them, have a good relationship with them as in there most weeks. The protocol now is that they have to see the car as a mate was breaking his s3 and couldn't get the code from the dealership

I've bought codes from ebay for a tenner and had no issues. Just give them the serial number and you have the code emailed to you within 24 hours

Weird, I've bought 3 RNS-510, sold the RNS-510 rev A that came with my Ed. 30 and all needed a code to work for the 1st time in a different car than where the radio came fitted originally. I didn't know that those radios had the possibility to erase the security code. I know the code can be changed...
