Title: S3 brake upgrade, what discs and pads?
Post by: Mk5. EWC on May 29, 2017, 09:09:06 pm
I've just got some s3 calipers for my MK5 GTI. I'm not sure what brake discs I'll need because I don't have a registration number for the car they were from. I've tried an eBay search but it's very broad. Any ideas?

Get the 340mm discs from an Audi TTS (lighter than the 345mm S3 items) and get pads for the S3 calipers.

Go on Euros or carparts4less and look at 2008 model TTS discs and 2008 S3 pads presuming the caliper is from an 8P S3. If its from an 8V then get the pads for that. Simples

As Dan says.

I got mine from eBay seller carpartsbargains which is in fact Eurocarparts/Carparts4less

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222380812870

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221993010962 (the listing pic is wrong, trust the part number T2074 and the 2nd pic in the listing for what they look like)

Cheers

Stu

PS. We're both assuming they're S3 8V calipers as per this thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,108106.0.html

Yeah, but that price is for a single disc. Use carparts4less (same company and part numbers but always cheaper) or the eBay link above.

Is there a way of getting drilled and, or grooved ones on Euro Car Parts? I did find some on there but can't remember how. They have 66% of this weekend!!

Hi Mk5. EWC

Use the code on Eurocarparts.com then go to carparts4less.com and use their 12.5% off code and see which is the cheapest. Lots have people have said it lots of times, Eurocarparts is over priced and only competitive when there is a code. Both of these websites are owned by the same company but carparts4less site tends to be the low price all the time without silly weekend sales/midweek sale/payday sale/etc sale :)

I bought a set of brembo high carbon 340mm discs with a discount code from Opieoils who advertise on this forum. Can well recommend - the bells and edges of the discs are treated with some coating, and they still aren't rusting now (I had them fitted mid/late 2015 I think).
I picked up on these discs from a user called Beddie - will look up the part no's if you like. I have these with a set of DS2500 pads on the front. They've served me well - a little squeak from the pads at very low speed, but otherwise good.

All good advice on here lads! Thanks to all :happy2:
Will be storing it all up in my tiny brain as I desperately need a brake upgrade!

Since fitting the Peron intercooler and the VIS pump upgrade the car has gone bananas! Making a shed load more power. Must be the pump I reckon. Can't imagine the intercooler is making much difference?

Seriously need some new brakes now!
