Title: Timing issue
Post by: matty_d on June 02, 2017, 02:33:33 pm
Hi,

Having a few issues with my gti that I have just purchased 2 weeks ago. Had the cam belt and chain tensioner replaced. The mechanic is absolutely certain that the timing is all bang on yet he is saying that it is popping up with warnings saying that there is a timing fault.

I rang the garage that I bought it from and they said that old warnings can still pop up on the computer and it's nothing to worry about.

Is this plausible? The car was driving ok to be fair?

Cheers

Matt

Clear codes... if it comes back or won't go away then there's a fault. Don't let them fob you off

Idealy you'll want it on VCDS as already said to make absolutely sure the cam timing is spot on..... so easy to get it a tooth out

MK5 or MK6?  If MK5, why only the chain tensioner and not the chain as well?
