Think it may be DSG fluid. The bottom of the box is wet with oil. Have checked sump plug, filter and mechatronic cover. Not coming out of the breather at the top either. Any ideas?
This photo is taken looking back down the car. The mechatronic is out the top of the photo

It's not engine oil is it? Rear main seal, or dripping down from somewhere up above? Does it smell/feel like engine oil? Does it come back if you wash it all away with brake cleaner? Does the gearbox side of the box take normal gear oil? Does it smell like that? (peanuts).

Rear main seal? I assumed dsg fluid as it was on the box but could be engine oil. Will give it a smell - the dsg fluid smells like that horrible fishy glue in primary school. I cleaned it with brake cleaner, wiped it and it dried. Went for a short drive, still dry. Went for a longer drive, bottom is wet again. I'm check above. The top of the box and what i can see from above with induction and battery tray removed is all bone dry.

Rear crank seal. If that leaks, engine oil can drip out of the bell housing gaps, but that's quite a rare problem on the EA113 to be honest.
Yeah I remember that nasty sh*t from school. Smelled of piss (ammonia) or fishy as you say! If it doesn't smell fishy, probably not DSG fluid then. OK so you have cod n chips to sniff out, or peanuts if it's the transmission side of the box. Pretty sure DSG uses a separate oil for the mechatronics and the gears? I don't know much about DSG I'm afraid. If it doesn't smell of either, it's likely engine oil.

Well it doesnt smell fishy, and it doesnt smell of peanuts - that I could tell... hmmm

Coming from back of the gearbox. Think it's engine oil. There's also a bit on the front wishbone mount. It looks bone dry from the top and around filter and below etc. Can't really see where it's coming from but pretty sure it's back of gearbox
