damn i fancied this but checked and am in lincolnshire that week :sad1:
we need to organise another MK5golfgti day down there in the coming months :happy2:
-
theres a good variety of cars going to this as well, so its not just the usual repeated same car same figures jobbie either.
quite a few tuned mk1 vRS 1.8T coming, tuned Fab vRS, quite a few mk2 octavias with various remaps and stages of tune.
think ian there is only 2 k04 cars going at the moment.
should be a good day, hoping to make it
-
Just myself, Robin and Phyllis.

I think you will need some new software.
Just because mine made 20bhp more then yours at the same stage of tune :P.
My prediction 295bhp. If it drives great then i dont wanna stress the car too much more.
If i go with new software, i will then need Brakes to stop it, intake to improve pickup, fuel pump so it doesnt starve to death, and an Insurance that does charge £25 each time i add something!!!!.
Too much ££££.
My money is now aiming for more Cosmetic mods next month
-
Just to update, i will be attending still, though if my downpipe and connecting pipe dont arrive in time, Phylis wont go on the runners list. Its 50/50 if the exhaust arrives back in time for this saturday :sad1:
-
You do go on. I feel like I'm married to you Robin. :surprised:
....Like upside down and on fire in a hedge?
See ya next weekend [Phew! These long distance relationships can get mighty tricky]
-
i would love to come along to this but i might be working . is there a back up list ?
-
I'll pop down in my new ride, If i can get on the rollers early put me on the list if not i'll just come down to say hello. Have friends coming over to visit saturday evening, so can't be late back.
Ta
Thor
P.S will bring a bag of oats for Phyllis
-
Nice one Thor
Look foward to seeing you again :happy2:
-
Phil and I are probably going to meet up at Sainsbury's J7/M27 (or is it still A27 there?). It's not far from there to JKM - Half-an-hour max IIRC.
Anyone else want to join us if it's on your way?
-
I think it will be just us Robin, as hedge typically likes to squash wildlife on the A32 to portsmouth. Im sure others that are attending are coming in from sussex direction.
Going to jkm tommorow at 4pm to have Downpipe installed on phylis :pomppomp:
-
I'll meet up with you at Sainsbury's, especially if you can get breakfast there. as I'll be heading down from Reading.
Phil, does the DP mean phyllis will do a number starting with 3 then :happy2:
-
On jkms rollers, they are notoriously
accurate mean
Put it this way, if i hit 300, ill be happy as a sand boy, but my prediction is 295bhp, so on Surreys RR setup, would be 3??.
They run in 4th at jkm and not 3rd like Surrey did,
See you 8am ish then. Sainsburys have a cafe so from 7.45 ill be there for Black pudding
If you PM mr Hedge, he''ll add you to Briskoda's running list :happy2:
-
He's added as are you all.
Sainsburys to JKM is 1/2 hour if you walk it Robin. :P
-

Takes him that long Ian, to 1st put on his driving glasses, then check his tyre pressures on his fancy digital thingy, then go through his lift over sequence, then have a fight with his sat nav, then EVENTUALLY get moving in the wrong direction :signLOL:
20 minutes if your not tanking it like some people down the A roads
-
Ah. I misread. I thought you were going to the Sainsburys at J12 M27.
Still applies though. :P
-
See you 8am ish then. Sainsburys have a cafe so from 7.45 ill be there for Black pudding
....I didn't know that! Then I'll join you at 7:45am too

Oh yes, you've travelled in my passenger seat.
-
lol but who was it that sent you one juntion too many at the roundabout in Brum?? lol :ashamed:
-
A friend with an Octavia 1.9 TDI with a Shark remap is coming in convoy with me. So 3 for breakfast so far.

He's a roller virgin and not a member on any forums but Kate has added him for me. I know him because he bought one of my music CD's (he's a fan).

Yes Robin, then you can follow round to Maccy D's :happy2:. Its literally 400 yards away.
See you in the morning

-
No worries Hedge
Been managing the good ladies expectations for my return time all week, got plenty of slack now.
-
There's normally a bit of room for negotiation regarding the runners.
-
Well, yet another enjoyable day. Managed to see a nice improvement to Phylis's performance. Horsepower up to 285bhp with peak torque at 305lb ft at 3700rpm.
Great to see everyone, DomT, Hedge, RedRobin, Chris (Thor), and a few other familiar faces.
Got a comparison graph for Torque only from my previous run with just the cat back illistrated by the Red line, and the Blueline for the Downpipe and cat installed.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs264%2Fphilmcavity%2F001-2.jpg&hash=657ad212d9d99aa9d676253a988b7449f1bb7cea)
@ chris. Hope you enjoyed your little trip out in Phylis.
-
Nice one My Syphilis, especially after the faffing around you had to do. Looks like it was worth the effort! :congrats:
How did everyone else do?
-
Come on guys....spill the beans...and the graphs :jumping:
-
I'll get around to taking a pic of my plots later but my K03 GTI reached 261.4 hp with great curves and torque as usual. So the Twintake has now added a healthy 23.9 hp beyond the Carbonio.

Chuff me Robin, you must be well happy with that? :jumpmove:
Steve, have you gon Stage 2 yet? I assume not from the RR run. But still a nice improvement on the previous run which is what it's all about..
-
Had a great time today, big thanks to the Briskoda boys for making us welcome and Hedge for organising us all. :drinking:
Here's my plot (standard Ed30), mind you after Mr Mcavity letting me have the reins of Phylis, me thinks i will be doing some fettling over the next few months

Cheers guys enjoy the rest of the weekend

At the present time, im very happy with the way the cars going ben.Against Hedges car today i was only around 10bhp down to his stage 2 Bluefin and even ahead on torque(but thats another story).
The issue that jim from jkm had with my car was he struggled to get heat into the tyres as mine was suffering with tyre slipping as for some reason, my vredesteins take a while to get heat into them so it wasnt gripping the rollers as good as it could do.
Now if i go to stage 2, not only will i suffer with huge traction issues, it would then spoil the fact the car wont get the power down the the tarmac, and be pointless unless i get some stickier Rubber on spend stacks on doing other road handling mods which i dont want to do to change the GTi's characteristics.
As Chris found out today driving my car on the specially reserved runway, a full exhaust and stage 1 map, is plenty fast enough.Driveablitly i feel will be lost if i do more on current factory suspention, ride height and most importantly Brakes!!.
Im no where near needing to change my tyres to deal with coping with the extra grunt. The vreddesteins have been a revelation compared to the Dunlops fitted previous. The current traction i get is just enough to get me down the Pod in decent time.
-
I understand what you are saying mate, but loading on the Stage 2 file is hardly going to be a huge amount different with regards to traction. :driver:I can understand if we were talking about the HPFP and Stage 2+, but if you already have the hardware then it seems for the extra £50 (or whatever BF is) you may as well (IMO of course). But if you're happy, then that's fair enough.
But if the promises you have made in the past regarding going to the next step are anything to go by, stage 2 won't be far away.. :signLOL:
-
The other Point Ben thats making me think twice about straining the car nearer its Build limits. After speaking to several people, im being very cautious about putting more Torque via my gearbox especially.
For the sake of a few extra horsepower, its not worth it mate imo.
.
Only thing on my "must list" is the reverse camera modification :happy2:
-

....Indeed I am! Very happy. I was only expecting about 255 max. It was a good dyno day with cold crisp air to help. It's the whole package though: power, suspension, diff, brakes, all add up to great taut and tactile driveability. Also 14.07 at Santa Pod in the capable hands of JonnyC. I think my next mod will be an intercooler just to better manage things and then stop modding - I don't need any more out of my car than I'm already getting.
-
I don't need any more out of my car than I'm already getting.
Famous last words...

how did carls(mater) vRS get on. did it perform on the rollers
-
i think if its the yellow octy, it was 263bhp, Our golfs were the show stoppers today :star:
-
no that would have been a mk1. carls is a blue mk2 vRS stage 2+ revo
-
oh sorry, there were 2 yellow mk2 octys there. Didnt see him, but 266 bhp was the highest skoda. So less then that figure
-
how did carls(mater) vRS get on. did it perform on the rollers
Unfortunately not. Gutted doesn't quite cover it. :sad1:

gutted for him. hopefully he'll sort tha in abit. it is strange that it was fine before stage 2+ went on though.
did muckipups car do alright??
@ RR
good to see your car making over 260Hp thats more like where it should have been. :happy2:
-
wow RR thats an enormous increase (proved) again for these new air filters. I amazed every time I see these % gains :jumpmove:
another good result MrMacavity :happy2:
hard work with the downpipes paid off for limited outlay.
Although from what you describe I reckon you still need a better quality tyre :drinking:
no more modding from you guys ........yeah right :signLOL:

....An interesting comment about the Vredesteins. They have received excellent reviews. As I also run asymmetric tyres (Goodyear) and using a TyreSure monitor, yes they do take time to warm up but I don't know how their warmup compares with other tyres. My car sat for several hours parked before going on the rollers and grip wasn't an issue and I'm down to 4mm tread.
Difference in rubbers?
Or does MrMacavity need some further mods to get his power down more directly?

That explains why your tyres were so sticky then Red...
-
Good to catch up with RR and Ian yesterday, albeit briefly!!! Should have stuck my van on the rollers..........
-
sounds a good visit, gutted i couldnt make it.
Thor your graph is pretty much the same as what mine was as standard on JKM rollers :happy2:
lol @ pinky and perky!
suprised that hedge only made 10 brake horse on you phil with his pump in there and stage 3...

Nope been toned down since I took the EVOMS off.
-
did u not like the EVOMS??
-

No.
-
did u not like the EVOMS??
No.
....I don't like it much either. Delivers excellent performance but looks like you've got a pleated lampshade under your hood and sounds like pebbles in a metal tray.
-
you going to stay without the intake for good now hedge, or will you be looking for a less racous maybe even enclosed filter
-
No intake for me. I like my peace and quiet.

@ NB07, JIm said he thought it may have been running on standard pump fuel, prior to me getting it on wednesday since when it has only had V-Power

and No redex this time :congrats:
-
how did you fare at JKM then.
lets be fair even with the intake off, itaint going to be slow, so it doesnt matter a thing if your not after peak power. I now regret getting my cat back, i prefered it when mine wasnt so loud with just the 3"DP.
i think if i wasnt selloing up i would have reverted back to stock or maybe got an extra silencer fitted in you never now really until you try these things
-
oh sorry, there were 2 yellow mk2 octys there. Didnt see him, but 266 bhp was the highest skoda. So less then that figure
Erm unless a car snuck on the rollers i didn't see the Highest Skoda was mine at 263bhp :P :P :P
Chris Ellis then got 261bhp which was the Yellow one.
Muckipup got iirc 245ishbhp
and the rest followed on behind.
There was only yours and Hedge's Golf's i think which got Higher. But Numbers are for Pub talk
I think i am going to just give up chasing what the problem is now. I know it's got way more power than what it produces on the rollers and Chris Ellis had a drive and said it felt exactly like Steve Makers Stage 2+ car which had iirc 285bhp and 340lb/ft.
Plus i get comparable in gear times to other Stage 2+ cars.
K04 is going on next which should give me around 320bhp & 300lb/ft BUT the torque will be across a wider band. Or knowing my luck i will get 230bhp and 220lb/ft
Carl :happy2:
-
No intake for me. I like my peace and quiet.
I'm with you on this one Hedge. As much as I like the sound of the open cone Intakes like EVOMS, to live with everyday I think it would get on my tits with the amount of mileage I normally do. If you are wanting a intake, but not the loud noise, the Dbilas intake is a great compromise, as my mate has found with his S3.
-
^^^I thought the dbilas was particularly noisy on the mkv?
-
^^^I thought the dbilas was particularly noisy on the mkv?
It's not on my mates S3 . Sure you can notice a difference compared to the stock intake, but there is certainly no Darth Vader noise and massive waste gate chatter..
-

I love that sound!!
I tend to try and do it deliberately just to hear it  ...and scare old people
On the motorway when travelling normally it rarely does it :happy2:
-
Don't get me wrong John I love it too and when I had a go in yours at Brunters I kept doing it all the time.. :jumping: It's just when you work in the car every day and sometimes take customers out so woudn't be ideal.. :ashamed:
If it were my weekend car then :jumpmove:
-
No intake for me. I like my peace and quiet.

Nice. At the end of the day you either choose to live with or don't. I chose not to others choose differently.
If we were all the same life would be so boring.
-
so true  all i will do is put a lid on it and if i want noise take it off  nice and simple
-
I was wondering if a carbonio could be modded to house the filter on an intake? The bsh filter for example looks to sit where the carbonio sits, I'd have no issues chopping the back of it to house the filter and still get the oem air supply
Thoughts, could it be done :jumping:
-

No! The Carbonio doesn't have enough volume inside to swallow up the sizeable filters that come with the EVOM's ITG etc. :sad1:

Found a couple of snaps taken.
Wonder if anyone can spot our Mr hedge in this pic. Something tells me its a bit of a giveaway :ashamed:
