Title: Rough running
Post by: Lukegti on June 21, 2017, 09:20:26 am
Hi, having a bit of an issue and need some advice after replacing multiple things & reading about how it could be multiple things on here. Basically the car doesn't cold start healthily, always starts just sounds rough. Also I have an idle 'dipping problem' when revved below 1500 revs. When dipping the clutch the idle will creep back down slowly and drop to about 500 revs, then I'm able to hear a valve of some sort click shut, then the revs recover again. Not sure if these issues are related, I've replaced Pcv, battery, cam follower, & just had a full service. Any ideas?

Cheers
Luke

I'm not an expert but it does sound like symptoms of Carbon build-up on the intake valves. May be worth exploring.

Can you get it plugged into a dianostic machine or Torque app to see if you have any error codes?

Thanks for the input, so if I had one of those carbon cleans done would that clean the valves? Or have I gotta have them properly cleaned? And I'm sure I'd find somewhere with vagcom local, I'm in Leicester

Thanks  :happy2:

I've watched some videos on Youtube on it, its look doable yourself but dirty and time-consuming! I'm sure someone on here would have done it too, have a search around the forum.

What happens -

Cleaning -
TSI rather than the FSI

You don't nesscessarily need VAG-COM, you could try a £15 ebay code reader, I have one and it will read most faults.

I had similar symptoms on an older car. A throttle body clean seemed to cure it. Although on the 2.0tfsi it's not too easy to get to iirc.

Rtech offer carbon clean and they're in Leicester.

Just don't go for one of those "hydrogen cleans". They're worthless. See my vid on YouTube for my test and borescope images - search for "Putting EngineCarbonClean to the Test"
