Title: Servicing at VW
Post by: unzippy on June 26, 2017, 10:52:50 am
Hello
I have a modded Ed 30 with full VWSH.  I'm due an oil service but would like them to use 5W-40, any chance VW will if I ask them nicely?

From recent experience I wouldn't go to VW ever again, regardless if I'm driving my ED30 or a VW UP!

They serviced mine, 4 weeks later the oil light came on.

I know someone who went Midlands VW (depends on your location though) you've got a better chance of them using 5W-40 than VW using it..

Pay for a good service bro and not a stamp in the book as most of us get caught up with these days as we think it keeps valuation!

If the car is on fixed servicing instead of variable/longlife, they should be using 5W40 anyway, but they tend to throw 0W30 Helix Ultra into everything by default these days.  My dealer are fine with me taking my own oil along and just adjust the bill accordingly.

Nor me. I had to replace 4 wheel hubs because of their lack of attention in my cars early life.  :fighting:

They will do what you ask. You're paying for a service.

Make sure you ask for evidence of it though, I caught them out before on a fuel filter by asking to take home the removed part.

Shouldn't be a problem, the dealer should be able to get it through their parts department or you could supply it yourself.

VW fixed price servicing is £164 for a minor service and £329 for a major but they can obviously adjust it accordingly with the price of the oil

That's terrible what did they say when they couldn't provide the old part?

A number of my experiences with the local VW service agent have been poor. Paint job went back three times / they lied to VW UK when I complained / a pollen filter which had supposedly been replaced per invoice looked rather medieval 2000 miles later. I'm happier sticking with trustworthy independants, specialist or otherwise.
