Hello.
I bought a Gti recently and have had a problem with it i cant seem to get to the bottom of.
Runs fine no lights on the dash. No codes come up. (well there was a code but cleared and didnt come back so assume its an old code)
Seems not to be lacking power but when you get to around 4800 revs it hits what fells like a rev limiter.
Still no lights come on, change gear and all is fine. No misfire or limo mode etc.
Was told it was the lpfp. Googled it and it made sense. Changed that and it made no difference.
Thats when i took it to be plugged in, low pressure fuel code come up. Cleared and it didnt return . Took it for a drive and the fault happened so plugged it in again. Still no code. He was a mk5 Gti owner and seems to knock his stuff. Thought it could be the fuel filter clogged. I can smell fuel at times.
Chnaged the fuel filter and it made no difference.
A friend of mine asked his mechanic mate who has a Golf GTD and he said disconnect the maf and go for a drive.
Now it didnt run great but did rev to the redline.
Ordered a maf and fitted it today. Still not fixed it!!!
I now have an engine light on.
Anybody experience anything similar?
Ive taken the oil cap and dipstick off whilst the engine was running to see if the pcv valve is ok and all seems good, runs rough with them off.
Ps, is this theright section? Thought Troubleshooting sounded right.

Try changing your divertor valve...
My 2005 GTi, is already on the 3rd one and this ones starting sticking again like the 2nd after around 2 years. I get no warning lights but the car won't go above 40mph and can't get the rev's past 2500 rpm, takes a long time to get there as well!!!

I will take the diverter valve off and have a look at it. I've no idea if it's been changed before.
Car is on 71k miles.
Thing is my car feels absolutely fine until high up.the revs.

Blocked exhaust?

I thought maybe a blocked cat but it wouldn't rev when I disconnected the maf if it was.
I will get the dv off and have a look.

Stick a GFB DV+ on there. The OEM ones are rubbish.
You would normally get under boost fault codes if the valve was shot, so that's strange you don't have any.

Maybe it's not the DV then.
I havent had chance to get it off yet to inspect it.
