Title: Gti DSG wont start
Post by: 6waysforward on July 10, 2017, 01:38:38 pm
So after parking my gti up yesterday and returning a few hours later, the windows had gone halfway down on their own. Hmmm strange but ok, maybe i had lent on the keys at some point.

So i unlocked the car and puts the keys in the ign, dash lights come up but wont crank. Everything else works fine.

Rac came out and did a battery check and said its all fine, all fuses ok and all earths etc ok. He seems to think its the starter motor.

So my question is, can i just buy a new one from euro or does it need to be coded in etc?
Are the starters for the DSGs different?

I have not got vagcom or equivalent to be able to scan.

Any help would be great as i am a total newb to vags.

Does it make the solenoid clicking sound, or anything at all?

It's not that hard to remove: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Volkswagen_Golf_GTI_Mk_V/17-ELEC-Starter_Replacement/17-ELEC-Starter_Replacement.htm

Doesn't need to be coded, but ECP will want your old starter as part exchange for the new one most likely.
