Picked up the ED30 a couple of days ago and getting used to the handling characteristics and have noticed especially today in the damp conditions the back end wants to step out. Looking at the tires Ihe rear has what looks to be budget tires fitted so think that'll be the issue so after some recommendations on what tire is best. Falkens are fitted to the front and one has some rubber from the side wall so thinking it best to replace them all.
Had a Google search and it pulls up form threads and pistonheads dating way back to 2008, 10 etc and as all manufacturers release new models I was hoping for some more upto date advice.
Also, the car didn't come with manuals so what tire pressures are you opting for?
So what would you recommend
Thanks in advance
Steve

Most people run Pilot sports from michelin or Eagle F1 Asymmetrics I think. PS4 are really meant to be good atm, a big improvement on 3s. Personally I'm a Asymmetrics fan and rate them wet or dry. (Other brands do of course exist and these are by no means the only two good brands :D)
Other thing that can make rear end step out is an uprated rear anti roll bar. My mk5 had plenty of understeer but rarely lost rear end or oversteered so likely tyres or arb I'd have thought?

Michelin PS4.
There are so many tyre threads on here, all asking the same question, all getting the same answer.
If you type mk5golfgti.co.uk followed by your search term into Google, you'll find the same. The site also has a search feature of its own.
Apologies if I'm coming across as negative, or pedantic, but the info really is already out there.
Just go steady on your current tyres until you get some decent rubber on, and get a full alignment done afterwards to make sure your geometry is within tolerance.

Thank you for the advice, I'll take a look at prices

Never knew typing the name of the site first gave more specific results so thanks and no not taken as negative

That's the cowboy way of doing it, ie you'll also get results from other sites, but if you put:
Best tyres site:www.mk5golfgti.co.uk
It should give results exclusively from this site.
Being honest, our internal search function can be hit and miss, but it's there too, and infinitely better than nowt :)

Standard tyre pressure is on the petrol flap sticker, 2.6 bar front and back iirc.
That much pressure can give a harsh ride on some tyres, depending on side wall stiffness, so experiment with a pressure you feel comfortable with. I run mine at 33psi all round, which seems to give the best compromise.

Thanks for the pointers, didn't even think to look at the petrol cap as on other cars it's been on a sticker on the door shut. I'll have a go on 33lsi and see how I get on

33psi is what I am using also with the PS3.
