Hello all
So today I've purchased my first 06 mk5 GTI after a horrible experience with the mk4 GTI, but I'm willing to give the Golf another chance :) unfortunately however I have to wait a month to drive it due to my insurance >.>
Bought at 100k miles, super clean and very well looked after, I fell in love the moment I saw it. However I'm reading horror stories so I've decided to take it to a VW specialist to get it checked over but I'm just wondering what exactly I should be asking to get checked? There was a receipt for a cam follower roughly 30k miles ago, couldn't find a receipt for the timing belt and couldn't find a receipt for the last service. So I'll ask for those 3 things to get checked (maybe even do the follower myself) but is there anything I need to look out for?
Thanks

I'd get the belt changed if you do don't know its history. Oil and filters may as well get those done as it won't cost much.
Cam follower as you mention.
Other than that PVC Valve and the diverter valve see here

Then maybe plan to drop the sump and clean the oil pickup pipe filter.
Most of all enjoy it

Thanks!
Is around 30k on the cam follower bad? Being the car is standard and not tuned in any way and judging by looking at it, it hasn't been abused.

If your specialist is any good I would have hoped that they'd know exactly what to look for to baseline your car

If it's a DSG the gearbox needs to be serviced every 40K.

definitely the cam follower and cam belt

Well this is my first time going to this fella so I'm sure he will know, his reviews are excellent but I'll be voicing it just to make sure :happy2:
