Just wondering if somebody could help me, I'm currently looking at buying this edition 30 from a dealer, I was about to check my insurance when suddenly it cropped up as a normal gti.
I checked another random plate of a ed30 and that came up as a ed30, I do a reg check and it say's golf gti but 230 bhp, something's surely wrong here? he says it has the genuine v5 with the edition 30 on it etc. But I don't wanna waste time/money going to view the thing if it isn't even legit. the reg is NK57 NJE. D:
-
Got a dealer advert for it you can link? I chucked the reg through a couple of reg checkers and it showed GTI to me, not Ed30
-
Post a link to the advert.....lots of differences between the 2 cars.
-
As above let's see the ad

I used moneysupermarket and that says it's a GTI (200), not 230.
-
Best to put the ad up so we can see the detail in the car too - not just the numbers.
-
Found the car on autotrader bais,
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201707277772765?keywords=edition%2030&make=VOLKSWAGEN&year-from=2008&year-to=2008&aggregatedTrim=GTI&advertising-location=at_cars&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&model=GOLF&postcode=bt275pr&sort=sponsored&radius=1500&page=1
No detail other than surface photos and same with a general copy and paste description it could be a edition 30 replica gti. I'd ask for the VIN and then contact vw customer service and ask for the build number of it, and then you'd be certain/
-
For a replica its bloody good.....interior is right, steering wheel, door sills are all correct although I'd avoid it as any doubt is still doubt. Plenty more Eddys about.
-
Willni idea is good - I'd ask for the VIN and then contact vw customer service and ask for the build number of it, and then you'd be certain/
Up to date contact details are on here in the later pages of the Ed30 register section.
meanwhile get a photo of the VW build sticker, on the boot floor, and x-ref to the VIN too.
-
No engine bay picture. Perhaps the seller knows ED30s have front mounted DVs

+1 on that - really good rep if it is one! - although the lack of armrest would put me off for starters! :P
contact VW and if still in doubt - move on.
-
I spoke to the dealer and he says its an import from Germany, he sent me the paperwork and the engine code and it starts with BYD. he says when it came over here it must of got registered as a normal gti by accident. with it not being a uk model is there any differances?

link to the ad. sorry for the late reply, took a while for my post to go up and only just checked.
-
I'd say that was a genuine Ed30 myself. It has the Ed30 badge over the glove box too.
Was just going to post surely the BYD code (which I think is Ed30 only) will confirm for sure.
But the garage has given that info now. :happy2:
And centre armrest was an option on these in 2007..as I spec'd one.
About £115 if I recall it was. My cheapest of the 3x options I put on it.
Roof and Xenons weren't that cheap.
Good luck with the search anyhow.
-
I'd walk away.
So it's an import Eddy.....but the Dealer makes no comment in the add of such. Plus it's registered as a GTI not an Edition30 and God forbid you have an accident and the insurance company decide to argue that it's a normal GTI as that's what it says on the registration documents.
......and good luck selling it on......an Import that is wrongly registered?? IMO worth thousands less than he's asking as it stands.
-
Is there a way to re-register it? hmm, tempted to just walk away like you say, maybe its too much hassle then its worth.
-
If in doubt, walk, plenty more eddies out there
-
As others have said future buyers will say it's just a ed 30 replica and you'll be the one to take the hit, for £600 more you can get a genuine ed 30 with similar miles.
Also to note why is this one with lower miles cheaper than others with 10k more miles, seems a bit suspicious
-
As other people have said, alot more genuine cars for sale!

Its a pretty poor spec regardless of it being a genuine Ed30 or not - no steering wheel controls, no highline, no xenons, no parking sensors etc. etc. You can get a lot more car for that kind of money

Totally agree. As the others have said walk away and wait for the right one. Good luck with the search.
-
Walk away.... plenty more eddys about on this site alone. Like mine! Hint hint LMAO

There weren't a lot of edition 30's that were high specced, a lot of the high spec parts like xenons were added by enthusiasts later on. It's the same as the GTI a lot of people left them quite basic and then enthusiasts got them. It's handier having the stuff on them granted but it wouldn't put me off especially since you could bring one up to full spec (minus sunroof) for about £1,000 (very roughly and excluding labour) so the price of a nice set of alloys.
-
Checked on a few apps against the plate index and every time comes back as a 'GTI', no mention of actual horse power or any further model information to clarify (which is rare compared with the bucket loads of Edition 30's I've plate checked over the years).
Definitely avoid when you can make life easier and get another one with full peace of mind for similar cash and probably better spec :happy2:
-
Agree with all ... walk away. I looked at three Eddy's before I bought mine. The first was amazing condition and well looked after. I asked to see the paper work and it was odd that it didnt have much. It especially didnt have a UK bill of sale from new. Something wasn't right and in the end I checked the VIN with VW and it was a German import.. So it was bought and specc'd in Germany then imported and registered in the UK as new.
It will cause you grief on resale and insurance as its an import. Generally folks want british and want the limited edition number.
Its also not well specc'd as others have pointed out. Move on... this is not the eddy you are looking for.
Rip.
-
Thank you all for your advice and replies, gonna walk on and if anybody see's anything or is selling then let me know, thanks!
-
I'm selling mate. Nicer colour, slightly more miles a d just had a load of work to it. £7500
-
How many miles? And what's colour? If it's 3 door manual I could be interested!
-
Check the for sale section in there mate all info is in. It's black magic, 70500 miles with full service history and mot until Jan 2018. Just spent nearly 600 quid on brakes and shoes so should be a good tick in the box
-
It's a 3 door manual as well forgot to mention
-
BYD is the ed30 engine code....
-
It's a nice looking eddy mate, shame about the hit and run though! :/
The wheels do need a right good refurb like you said.
What number is it?
Il give it some thought for a day or 2 and get back to you if I'm interested!
-
Come buy my one - 3 door, manual and cheap :happy2: :jumpmove:
-
Nice car Greigzy, looks the bomb and I love the tornado red, with that price it'll sell soon I imagine! :happy2:
Too many miles and a bit of work needs doing for what I'm after though!
-
Personally I would always factor wheel refurbs into the cost when buying a new car. When I bought it I got all 4 done and as time goes on you end up catching kerbs etc.!
The hit and run is what it is, these things happen. The damage wasn't bad at all and was fixed within the day. I can't tell and I know it's there so I'm constantly looking for it.
If your interested drop me a message in the for sale thread it's in. Or even if you want more info or video walk around etc.
-
People are way too risk averse these days. If they want blemish free histories, impeccable condition and bugger all mileage, they have to be prepared to pay for it.
-
Agreed! :happy2: scratch free cars don't exist in my eyes. If you look hard enough you will find something! Lol
