checked today and my last timing belt kit & water pump according to book was feb-12 55k...
now on 98/99k... full service is due in december so was thinking to get this done together
anyone know exact timeframe/mileage these should be changed at...?
-
I'd be getting it done know and not waiting till Dec, sure it's about every 40k it should be done.
-
You'll hear different things from different people, but I'm sure 'every 4 years' is a common theme, mileage aside. Get it done. Water pump with every change.
-
40k or 4 years isn't it? Whichever comes first!
-
Famous last words but "I'd hold off" :signLOL:
If you're getting a full service in Decemeber I'd get the belt and pump done alongside. My reasoning for this is that they'll usually give you a discount if you're getting a bit of work done.
You're slighlty over the due date on the timing belt but what's 2 or 3 months
Disclaimer - I am not responsible if your belt snaps :signLOL:

Iirc Audi quote 5 years on same engine

Had mine done in 2009, 2013, 2017 on a 05 plate car... It's only done just under 66k miles!!! :driver:

This is what vw told me on the phone when I was booking a main service and enquired about the cambelt
-

@lukemk5gti (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10176) tempting lol but cba for the hassle if it were to snap... suppose better to be safe than sorry

My last gti was 7 years between changes and i hadn't copped it.
Got it done and the water pump was partially seized i was very lucky.
I would get it done now if i were you.
