I recently took out my RCD 300 radio, to replace it with an aftermarket one, and am looking to sell it. I assume that I'd get a better price if I supply the code with it(?).
I can't see the code in my car's documentation, and even though I gave VW the serial number, they couldn't find an associated code on their system.
Is there anything else I can do?

My car came with a card with the code for the radio, found it in my manual, don't think this happened with all cars but it's worth a shot. Other than that there are plenty folk on eBay that can get you a code with a few details from the stereo unit.

Thanks. I've not seen such a card, but will have another look.
I guess, with the Ebay people, it depends whether the cost of doing that would be made up with the possible increased selling price? This is assuming they can succeed where VW have failed...

I am absolutely no ICE expert, but I seem to recall a similar thread on here that said that a second-hand RCD 300 unit is worth F All - with or without code; you searched?
Just saying beware of over-spending to try to get a code.

I used this and worked for me and fast response

Great. Thank for the advice, guys.

I took my HU into VW Morden, along with my V5 and ID, and they got the code for me - free!

When does the radio ask you for a code? When it detects it's in a different car? Just curious.

Mine did it when I upgraded to highline!
Went to a friend in VW and he had the lads scan the car and connect to VW HQ online..............aaaaaaaaaaaaand the code was wrong!! :signLOL:
Had to bring it to a techie guy who stripped it, soldered wires to the board and ran his own scan on it. Bingo, code found.
A lot of hassle.

I called up my local vw and they said either get them the long code from the unit label or £35 cost to do it for me so I took the radio out and got a free code after two days as the guy forgot to call me
