Post by: Steve Baker on December 28, 2008, 02:44:07 pm
Has anybody any recommendations as far as Car Insurance companies ?
Our renewal notice has come in at £641 with previous insurer.  :surprised:
Car is completely standard !

Give Adrian Flux a go I've been with them for the last 5 years and no one can beat them for me modded or unmodded.

Greenlight are the best I have prices from them all and the beat Adrian flux by £300

Adrian Flux wanted £1000 to insure me on a standard Edition 30 .... with full NCB protected and no claims or convictions.  I am over 40  and live in the SW London part of Surrey.

My then insurer Elephant wanted £500.

Greenlight (using Highway Insurance) did it for £497 including a SC Bluefin remap !!!

Excess was £100 less than Elephant too at £250

For a standard Ed30 with no mods try Swiftcover or Esure

Standard basic cover with Swift was £280 for me with the ED 30

My tip is :

1. Go to Gocompare.com  or Moneysupermarket.com and find the most competitive quotes (but don't take it out via these sites)

2. Then save around £45 and apply online via Quidco

http://www.quidco.com/finance/general-insurance/swiftcover/

Funny the difference people get with the same insurer.

I'm with Adrian Flux and it was £585 with all my mods declared and like for like replacement in case of a write off with a guaranteed value as I also have GAP insurance.

One thing I will say is that I said I was a member of UKMKIV's and received an extra discount. :happy2:

I've been with Greenlight for 2 or 3 years now as they've always been competitive.  Unfortunately though they weren't competitive enough at my last renewal and I'm now with HIC and am paying around £100 less than what Greenlight quoted me.

I work in TV and it sucks - greenlight has always been best but.. they won't do media people so I miss out and I'm with kwik fit - best price but at 35 and over 11 years no claims its a joke but its the cheapest I can ever find.... - if anyone knows a media friendly insurer please let me know!  :happy2:

the insurance companies dont look particularly at the company you work for, its the Roll your job is.

Im sure Brawn GP employ people other than Racing drivers. There will be who work for Brawn who put "cleaner" on their car insurance forms.

Just because you work for BskyB doesnt mean your in for make up and in front of a camera every morning does it steve?

Just called them, even adding my ITG and removing Dad doesn't make any difference.

I tried HIC, closest they can get currently is £900something. They're gonna try referring to underwriters but so far, £497 from Greenlight looks pretty good  :congrats: with everything delcared and covered.

These have been good for me over the last 4 yrs. Ashbourne Insurance on 01992 622365.  As with Greenlight my policy was with Highway.  Unlike most, they will refer it to the underwriter and give you a lot of their discount.

Chris.

Got my renewal through last week - last year it was £520 and this year it is £665 due to a fault claim recently for a reversing incident :ashamed:

£1 years old.
15k miles.
Remap declared, no other mods.
Parked on drive.
One named driver.
Maximum no claims.
Guaranteed NCB.

I'll be shopping around though and trying Greenlight because I was with them for a couple of years with the R32 and they were quite competitive.

Did my shopping around today and the cheapest has come out as Admiral bizarrely.

I'm a bit annoyed though as my current insurance with HIC isn't up for renewal until the 22nd and they took payment today (17th) and I've received an e-mail saying my policy has been renewed.  If I accept the Admiral policy (which I probably will) HIC had better not charge me an admin fee for refunding my money otherwise there will be trouble :fighting: It did say on the renewal notice to make sure funds were available in my account 5 days before but I still think it's a bit naughty renewing it 5 days early.

I'm with Admiral currently, but whats worrying is the number of stories I keep hearing from people with bad experiences with them whilst making a claim. Supposedly they can be quite awkward demanding that you go to their approved repair centres etc etc.

Think I'll be swaping next renewal (february) I have heard Priviledge dont charge you extra for paying monthly which is always a bonus as I hate having to ransack the savings account come renewal day.

Well I've found out why Admiral came out cheaper.....I went back to my quote to accept it, was just double checking everything nand realised that where I'd put my reg in it had the car listed as my old Mk 3 (which I've not owned since 2004).  After changing it to the Ed. 30 they were actually more expensive.

I've finally gone with Adrian Flux - £545.
Unlimited mileage
£300 excess
Protected NCB
Key insurance in case I lose them/have them stolen.
No increase for cosmetic mods.
Like-for-like replacement on mods.

They beat my renewal with HIC by £120 :happy2:

Adrian Flux......HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was with them for my Mk4 GTI so got them to quote to change to the Ed30. My W reg GTI was £375 and the BEST, yes BEST they could do for the Ed30 was £1110. Absolutely ridiculous when you conider my final premium with More Than was half their quote!!

You should all be grateful you ain't paying what I am. When I lived down south, my renewal was gonna be £800 with DirectLine. Greenlight et al all gave quotes of at least £1k.

I moved up back home with 'rents for a bit. It's now £2500 for the year. Every mod-friendly company want over £3000, hence no modding this year  :sad1:

Come back south Jazz!
I would love to but I have a three-year contract at the mo. Loved it down south. Lived in Bournemouth and loved it when I had nothing better to do at the weekend than go down to the beach with some mates. Plus there were lots of roads fantastic for driving round in Dorset so modded ED30 would have more fun than in stop-start traffic round Brum.

When the weather perks up again, we should have a southernly meet on the beach or something. Would be awesome.
