Title: CDL engine with K03
Post by: GTIEagles on September 28, 2017, 02:19:50 pm
I posted the other day about my potentially toasted engine. I'm just weighing up my options at the moment and if it needs a replacement engine I have heard I'm better off going for a CDL engine, for more future tuning potential and stronger internals.

The question I have is, could I run the K03 turbo from my AXX engine on it? I know it sounds pointless but my funds would already be seriously over stretched if I went down the K04 route but at the same time I would like to have the plug and play option there when I am better off financially.

Whats wrong with your engine?

Surely depending on the damage, it would be cheaper to fix it instead of swapping engines.

The dreaded low oil pressure light came on again after a year of being fine. The pickup pipe was replaced before and a new cam chain and tensioner were installed. So either the pickup pipe has somehow blocked again or the oil pump has died, in which case I might as well get a new lump installed seeing as a replacement pump is nearly £1300.

I'm not keen on going down the 1.8t oil pump route as I don't want to loose the smoothness of the engine. Plus god knows what other damage could have potentially been done.

Wow i knew the oil pumps were expensive but 1300 is ridiculous.

Yes in that case then a CDL or BYD engine would make sense. can get them for around 1500. then there is labour for fitting if your not doing it yourself
