Hi,
I regrettably sold my MK5 GTI just over a year ago now and am looking to get back in to another! Previously I had a manual, now looking to get the DSG version with a few more extras.
Anyway, I seem to have forgotten what a healthy MK5 GTI engine sounds like, I remember them not being the quietest engines on idle but not as bad as one I have just viewed.
Background on the car I viewed:
2006 model
FSH (inc DSG box)
70k miles
This is what it sounds like on idle:
Now the first half of this video is what I thought they sounded like:
Is it what the comments are suggesting, a bad timing chain tensioner?
If so, what is the likely cost in getting that replaced?
Thanks for your help, hopefully I'll be back in a MK5 in the near future!

Tensioner and all the bits all in are around £1000
