Not been having the best of luck lately. Had a suspicion that my rear brakes were rubbing. Fear confirmed today after taking it to my local garage, the rear calipers have seized. Have been quoted just over £500 for new rear calipers supplied and fitted with new pads. The calipers are coming to £130 each which i thought was a bit high. Have done some delving and found these which im guessing are the OEM calipers.

Would these be the ones im after as these seem a good price!

There are rebuild kits available for Calipers from tps or your dealer

I bought a set of reconned calipers on ebay for 120 quid for a pair and fitted them myself. No problems whatsoever. The only tricky part is recons dont tend to come with the hard line so be really careful taking the small hardline section out of your old ones, its easy to ruin them.

Im not particularly savvy when it comes to brakes. So may have to get someone to the job forme. Is it worth giving VW a try and see if they can use a repair kit on the rears. Strangely everywhere the rears are more expensive

Try Vw some are more older model friendly than others esp if they have older models regularly using them......it isn't widely known but Vw discount anything over 4 or is it 5 yrs old not sure now but I diff get get a good discount on my mk 5 :happy2:

Yep, because they break frequently....so a standard issue supply and demand business model there
VW did mine. It was in for a major service and they called to say the rears had seized, which I knew anyway. As it was the middle of winter, cold and wet, I retorted with immortal words "Ahh, go on then, whilst you've got it". New discs, new pads, 2 rigid lines, 2 calipers and a brake flush/bleed later......problem solved. All for the bargain price of £800
They're good to me with MOTs (schitty sports cat), parts discounts and tyres so it's swings and roundabouts really. They tried the rebuild route first but said they were too fooked to repair. The pistons & bores were corroded and pitted to buggery, and once that happens, new seals don't last 5 minutes and the calipers are therefore scrap.
If your pistons and bores are spotless, by all means go with a rebuild.....but it's usually the handbrake mechanism that seizes up and that's a right frig.

All sorted now :happy2:
Managed to find a new pair of Red genuine calipers for around £140 which was much cheaper than quoted. Just needed to fit them ad get fit new pads. Was lucky as managed to grab them before they ran out of stock.
