Title: Going down under, should I take the GTI?

Hello,

Only recently had the car for over a year, JediKnight's old Golf GTI - Edition 30 tribute.

Really enjoy it and recently had a major service, DSG service, cam chain tensior service all done @ AKS Tuning in Sept'17, hence I know the history etc.

Wifey has recently accepted a job down under during our holidays and now facing the decision of having to sell, or take it with us by XMAS.

For sh*ts and giggles I have been checking carsales.com.au for a similar spec (Mk5 GTI -DSG, winter, xenon, sunroof, mods), miles/km (96k miles/156k kms) and cost of what I paid and I feel nothing comes close to the value and quality of the work JediKnight has placed in the car.

Any thoughts, or advice from those who have ever thought about doing something similar, or know of anyone who has done it?

If it costs more than a grand to import it, I wouldn't bother personally, unless it's a rare, unique or one off car you love to bits.

Father-in-law is also trying to convince me it's not worth the hassle and cost.

I guess I am still coming to terms with it and the thought of having to get rid of it.

I will do more investigating on the import cost etc. I found this site which is good background detail - https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/

It does sound like a process to go through.

If you decide to do it, fill the boot with spares because I hear parts for German cars down under are very expensive compared to the UK!

Hahah I was thinking of filling the car with luggage etc.

Was hoping to udpate the suspension and take the car to Stage 2+ before I would go, but alas it may not be the case  :sad1:

Might do what you recommend and prep her for sale then, the car, not the Wife  :wink:
