Title: MPG and temp issues?
Post by: Leroy on October 17, 2017, 10:18:14 pm
What mpg should I be getting, just picked up the rents from the airport, 100 mile round trip on the m6, in 6th, doing 50mph in a speed trap area, couldn’t get above 35mpg?

Noticed the temp gauge dropping to 0 the faster I went and go up to halfway on idle and slower speeds and occasional big waft of fuel?

Is the thermostat sensor off causing overfuelling? I’ve had to replace this on every model gti I’ve owned but never used to get to halfway?

Sounds like you main thermostat, mine wouldn't reach 90 only when sat stationary.

After I had the main thermostat done it always sits at 90 now. MPG did go up after I had it done. When driving normally I get mid 30's but on motorway and long journeys with cruise control I get 39mpg and even got 41 on the way down to cornwall.

And thats with a turbo back miltek and evoms intake too :P

I'd say the main stat needs replacing and what a pain in the ass to do too  :signLOL:
