Hi all,
Its a pleasure to be back on the forum.. I have just taken delivery of a mk7 GTD..
Can someone please advise on winter wheels for the GTD.
I am looking to put a set of 16's on her with mud and snow tires.
Does anyone know if a 16 will fit over the brakes ?
Thank you.

They will fit over the standard 312mm brakes, but if your GTD has the 'Performance Pack' 340mm brakes, 16s won't fit.
If you have 312 front brakes, I have a set of 16" 5x112 winter steels, with Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D 205/55/16 surplass to requirements.......if that's of interest to you. They were for my MK5, but pretty sure they will fit a MK7 as well.

Gtd didn’t have a performance pack. I’d you get any mk5,6 or 7 wheels they'll fit.
16” wheels on a mk7 will look awful. You can pick up nice 18” rims at decent prices. I bought a set of Karthoums and Michelin alpin 4’s, looks the part and excellent grip

Agreed look awful, but winter tired perform best when high profile and narrow, hence the 16's with 205/55's..
Functionality over looks for the winter for me...

The only thing I would say is, 205 section squidgy winter rubber is easily overwhelmed by the torque of these engines when it's ~8 degrees and damp. You may find the summer tyres perform better in those conditions. But when it's really cold and really snowy/icy, they work well.

16's on with 205/55/16 91H Michelin Alpin5 Snow Tyres
7x16
ET42
Perfect..... Been through ice and snow..
Keep it in economy for winter driving and torque is generally no problem for the winter tires.
