Title: Steering Rack
Post by: Eighteen88 on November 08, 2017, 04:56:17 pm
I’m needing to replace the steering rack on my car, mk5 gt-sport 08.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to buy & where from?
Either new or reconditioned.

Replaced mine few months back, got a reconditioned gen3 one from acs, think it was near £300 plus your old rack. Can't fault the service

Cheers for the reply guys, spoke to the guys in the garage and they can source and for a rack for me for £670 all in. This will be a reconditioned rack they supply me with.
Think this what I’ll go for as I’m not sure on what to buy and certainly don’t have a clue on fitting it!!!

Don't forget to replace all the stretch bolts on the subframe

Surely the garage will know to do this?? Will the stretch bolts come with the new drive shaft?

Ask them, I doubt it, unless it's VW.

Stretch bolts are on the subframe, they don't come with reconditioned steering rack.

Most people reuse them, which leads to the subframe clunking that plagues a lot of users. About £30-40 to replace them all from memory..... I did and it solved all my subframe clunking noises
