Hey guys, what do you all use to clean the dial faces on the Mk5 GTi, I have seen a number for sale in dealers and on the web that have NASTY smudges and smears on the dial faces.  I can see they have that pearly blue / purple coating and have never had a fingerprint on mine, however there are some rain spots I want to remove but don't know what product to use without damaging the coating or putting mucky fingerprints all over it - any suggestions ?

Excellent question - I want to know the answer too  :happy2:

If you mean the see through plastic cover that sits over the instrument cluster then i just use a damp mf cloth.

-
				100% isopropyl alcohol  :happy2:

Oh I dunno about that. It could strip the anti reflective coating, or dull it or break it down with time. Could be wrong but I've never had a problem using a damp mf. Then a buff with a clean dry one

				Hiya
I use PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish seems to work ok

same here i just use a slightly damp MF and it does the job every time  :happy2:

Some diluted screen wash and an MF cloth works for me.

I thought the same and then also thought about it stripping the coating.  I have in the past scratched  :surprised: dial faces with MF's so am petrified to use one on mine.  I have up to this time been using a clinical tissue style wipe (also use them to clean my camera equipment) but not very effective.  I also thought of some camera lens cleaner - but again petrified ....

No, it won't strip the coating. It's what's recommened for high-end monitors that have the same anti-reflective coating. I've been using it for years on these screens and never had a problem once

If someone has been a bit over zealous with one of the spray on cockpit-shine products, and it's got on the dials screen, it can cause that wierd purple hazing effect.

I speak from experience many years ago  :ashamed:

Micro fibre and water worked for me but it took a few goes.  :happy2:
