Title: Fitting door lights
Post by: Ant b on November 20, 2017, 08:53:50 pm
Hello I’m trying to fit door warning lights onto my 05 gti,
I’m rubbish with electrics and I no you can use the pins but I don’t have vagcom and don’t really wanna fit them replace the door card and then when I get them coaded find they don’t work, plus I don’t no what pins to use.
So I was hoping to find the door plunger and go from there but I carnt find it,and I don’t really wanna run a wire from inside through the multi plug.
If someone could kindly tell me exactly what pins I need so I no when it’s all back togeather it will work that would be grate.

your modules are version K so they are Gen 2.

You need to put the positive wire from the door module into pin 1, and then connect the negative wire to a ground.

Best to tap into the ground from the fuel cap

Remember: The part number of your door modules is not the one on the black box, but the one on the sticker on the silver motor ending in 701 K

I hope I’ve done it right,I put the red into pin 1 and extended the wire so it reaches, and I used the brownish wire on the fuel flap wires for earth, below is the plug now.

on my current golf, i have gen 3 door modules so I used an empty pin slot (cant remember the number)

on the older golfs I had I had gen 1 and honestly I cant remember at all where I grounded it. Might have been a window switch ground or an empty pin on the connecter.

Can someone else confirm where they grounded theirs please?

Gen 1-2 use : +12v in PIN 1 and ground from PIN 2 or 4.
Gen 3 use : +12V PIN 18 and ground from PIN 19

Look at the motor partnumber(not the black electronik box) , Gen 3 has revision N, M and Q.

@Ant b (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=21063)  Yes, as Christiank says, you can use pin slot 2 or 4 for your ground on the passenger side door. I used 4 as you saw in my photo.
No need to reply to my reply to your PM as I did a bit of searching and found the thread you were referring to and in turn this one.
Looks like you've got it all sorted now.  :happy2:

Got them both done now,I am thinking about changing my projector ones to led,as they don’t offer that much light really and the projector bit is proud and rubs on the door plastic
