Just wondering as I have a short in some wiring I did is the metal cage that sits under the dash (you can see it if you open either end of the dash) is it a good grounding point for wiring or is it just a bad connection in the wiring?

Look for one of these grounding junctions, which is the best place to ground a new circuit. If in doubt, always replicate what the car maker does :happy2:

Cheers Pudding I did move it a while after the post to the top one in your picture actually, unfortunately still didn't fix it but at least it eliminates an area that could be the problem

No worries. It may not be a major issue with aftermarket accessories where you ground them, but VW ground all the components at specific places to reduce ground offsets, plus some other complicated reasons. They probably had a team of people in lab coats researching just that. Shame the rest of the interior only got one bloke on a Friday afternoon!

It didn't solve it unfortunately, and very true but the with the mk6 it was the reverse interior got the lab coats the exterior add a couple of angles.
