Evening all,
Earlier today i did a test fit of my MDI armrest unit, everything seemed to go well at first. My RNS 510 showed the "MDI" option when clicking the media button, but when i tried to plug my phone into it, i got the error message
"MEADIA IN: Device without function"

For connectors, i'm using a MDI > USB and the plugging the standard apple lighting USB cable into that

The phone charges, so i know something is happening but unsure why I'm getting the message mentioned above.
Would using a MDI > Lighting cable be a better option?

You need MDI lighting adapter, will not work via usb>cable. :happy2:

Hi. @Joshy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8554) . When I installed an rcd510 to my sisters Mk6 tdi I bought ona these cables which worked bang on. Recommend getting a longer cable.
Also I remember that 1 song needs to be on the actual iPhones music for it to pick up the phone. Weird but this was the only way to play music from YouTube Tubidy etc.
Hope this helps

Ah I see! I guess the MDI > USB cable only transmits the power and not data. Guess I'll buy myself one of the MDI lighting adapters then, just a shame they are expensive!

Thank you Raj, I'll have a look at that cable. Useful for my phone as i have the Aux port still, but the missus' phone only has the lightning port. Hopefully a MDI > lightning cable as Pashka suggested will be the one :happy2:
