What is it with people selling MK5 ED30 for peanuts on ebay its like they want to f*ck up the market for this model...
-
Got a link?
-
The whole market is dying off because everyone wants a leased 135i or 7R on their drive these days.

123,000 miles on the clock though.
Mine is coming up for 95K and I’ll only be looking for about 6K.
-
Why do people think the Ed30 will never devalue? They're simply not worth what they were a few years ago. Considering you can pick up Mk5 GTIs for sub 3k these days it hardly surprising an Ed30 can be had for a little over £5k
-
What i have noticed is where the ed30 holds its value is when its had some good mods done to it tbh millage means nothing to me as long as its got a good history to the car.

Yes agree about the quality mods .... I paid over the top for my Pirelli on paper but it’s had around 5-6 k spent on quality mods ( Bilstein /wavetrack /s3 brakes /full milltek to name a few ) so didn’t mind the extra it cost me . ..... don’t agree with mileage comment though . If I have the choice between 2 cars that are in good order and have been maintained,I’ll always pic the lower mile one

Quite simply - to Joe Public - they're 'just an old golf'. Mine is a later 08 car yet to celebrate 10 years on the roads, but the earliest versions are now pushing 12 years old. The market has seriously devalued these over the last 18 months - guess the number of MK7R lease cars coming on to the market have pushed prices down.
I bought mine with a specification, mileage, and price that I was happy with at the time in 2012. I reckon I'd have lost more on a brand new Clubsport in the last year than I may have lost in the last six on my ED30!
There's nothing I could currently justify to replace my ED30, so am happy with it to keep losing value until the time comes that prices stagnate. I look at some of the 80's/90's cars now selling for double what they were when new - Cosworth's, M3's, 205's, R5GTT's. Even my mum's old BMW E21 3 series that she sold for £50 are going for silly money.
If you're in it for the long run, I doubt you'll lose much money on an ED30 (if you resist the mods)...!

The 2005-09 are only really coming to the bottom of their depreciation, while their previous 1998-2004 are all increasing, in some cases vastly more than what they cost. The next generation will go up soon (Edition 30, Pirelli, Gti, RS4, E92 M3, E60 M5 etc).

And that is exactly what I like about it :happy2: ED30s don't attract attention unless someone is an an enthusiast of the brand, and I can sleep soundly at night knowing no one is going break my door down to steal the keys. Even if I had the money, I would not own a 'stolen to order' 7R, RS3, TTRS, M3, 335d etc. As much as I like the thought of upgrading, it's too risky.
But with the right mods, it is anything but 'just and old Golf' to drive, and I get a smug satisfaction from knowing my foe do not know that
In age of brash, bright blue, DSG fart in your face, obnoxious 'look at me' bullsheeeeeet cars, an old Golf suits me just fine thankee V much

Price seems to be all over the place tbh. GTIs with sub 80k in great condition with an excellent service history seem to be still going for 4-6k and higher mileage and less service history can be below £3k. Although I did think this was quite cheap https://www.gumtree.com/p/volkswagen/volkswagen-golf-mk5-gti-pirelli-edition-230bhp/1279279760

I'm willing to go take a trip to look at this one for anyone as it's 4 miles away from me...
He actually has it down to sub 6k now. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201711201409959 (https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201711201409959)
Only downsides are those cheapie tyres (but possibly bought to get it sold with legal tyres? I dunno), the exhaust is positioned a bit low and left and the front splitter needs some paint.

Wow that is cheap for a Pirelli.......but 5 door, manual, no xenons etc.....pretty basic spec. The rear bumper seems to be a different shade of silver to the body work too. I know you get that sometimes on some cars where metal and plastic merge, but I've not seen that on VWs before. It's always matched.
