Think we should have a separate section for this annual question.
Just wondering who are the good and bad out there at the moment.
Renewal due in a month @ £580 but with huge fire claim from Aug last year.
Greenlight £622
Admiral £690
Tesco Compare £595
Cheers

Directline?
-
Directline?
ALWAYS the cheapest for me :happy2:
Don't bother with confused.com or gocompare. Their best quotes are always double what I pay with Direct line. You can't touch diret line for service either (I've had a few claims in the last 14 years, mostly other people's faults)
-
It's a real con, wife works for Royal Bank of Scotland (boo hiss - and no she didn't get a bonus this year as she administrates Tesco Insurance!!!)
Well they own Nat West, Direct Line, Churchill, Admiral (I think), plus a few others. Staff & immediate family are supposed to get a discount by quoting the unique employee number. But all the staff are employed in call centers and only reiterate what the computer tells them. Which is normally more expensive than the comparison sites. Moan over.
What I should have asked for are good brokers. Someone who you can talk to and earns the commission.
Cheers

Im waiting on my insurance renewal to come through. Im currently with Chris Knott, very mod friendly and were by far the cheapest last year. Try some of the specialist companies like Adrian Flux, HIC, Greenlight, especially if you intend to mod or have mods! :happy2:
-
Nope - tempted by some of the mods you guys are doing, but don't want to complicate after the fire claim.
BTW Direct Line £876 with staff discount!!!! or £832 without :signLOL: (52days cover free)
-
Incidently, im a member of the IAM and IAM Surety will beat any quote you get.
-
Nice to know IAM member too, but never found it helped much with insurance.
-
if you are a std car then def I would still try confused.com/comparison sites as they seem a little better than the last time i did it (just remember to put in an invalid telephone number or youll get called!)
they even seem to quote for modded now too.
RACInsurance came out ok
staying standard is so much easier..
Im with Chris Knott due for renewal end of this month.
also try performance direct
for modded any deal is probably all with 'Highway' anyway.

Definitely. Get your lowest price from Directline etc then phone IAM.

Try some of the specialist companies like Adrian Flux
My Elephant renewal was £625 for a year - Adrian Flux wanted over £800. :stupid:

I know they really dont make any sense. Ive just done a compare the meerkat and Admiral has come in at £375 with all mods declared! :happy2:

You have an Elephant?!?!
Insurance costs seem a bit high for it!

£385 fully comp & protected no claims. Edition 30 alloys & a Milltek cat back non res. 05 GTI, through Brentacre. :driver:

I have used Directline for about 10 years, excellent service when you have an 'incident', however every renewal date I ALWAYS go online as a new customer to get a fresh qoute - DO NOT SETTLE for the renewal price, in the past 4 years of renewals I have gone online, got a price as if I am a new customer, and suprise, it has been 15% -30% ( ! ) cheaper than simply accepting the automatic renewal price ! Get on the phone, advise them that they are trying to rip you off and you are incensed ( my phrase - works every time ) and want to complain, magically they then offer the lower price to you over the phone.
I must say this really pisses me off, a friend in the insurance business tells me that renewals are considered ' an easy lay', customers are talked of as 'Sticky' - meaning we often just assume we have the best deal because we have a good relationship with the insurance company, this could not be further from the truth, they take Every opportunity to rip us off as far as I can see.
There rant ended...

Just while we're on the topic of insurance, those who are with Directline have you declared your Monza II's if you have them? And if so, how much extra were they?
When i got my GTi 4 months into my policy they wanted a further £200 odd just to cover the change in wheels. I only had the 17 Monza's at that stage and still do, but was just getting a price out of interest.
Im very reluctant to pay such a ridiculous amount as they're OEM wheels, only an inch bigger and most cars came from the factory with them anyway.
Obviously i wouldnt entertain the thought of not declaring them, but im trying to think if theres some way to word it that they wont ask for any extra!
-
My insurace is due for renewal next month as well. Currently on Admiral's multicar policy which is exceptional value for money if you have two cars in the household. The GTI and my fiancee's polo together comes to about £550. When the quote is broken down it amounts to £300 odd for the GTI :congrats:
I've been with Admiral for about 4 years as in the past they were the only ones to offer anywhere decent prices but now I'm the grand old age of 27 I hope a few others are a bit more realistic. I've only ever heard bad things about Admiral when it comes to making a claim ... not had to find out first hand :innocent: (touch wood!)
-
Im with Aviva they are the chepest i could get.
Im 22 with 5 years no Claims and i pay £650
-
Over the last six years or so I've been alternating between Greenlight, Adrian Flux and HIC.
-
I insure with Aviva - £284 full comp & full protected no claims & car garaged at night. Been with them past 3 years and can't be bothered to shop around given the price.
-
ive got 6 points for speeding, im 23 with 4 years no claims and mines 1400 with adrian flux. cheapest i could get by quite a bit
-
brentacre was by far the cheapest mod friendly for me..
01792650933
-
Try AXA - they came out cheapest for me. I'll be changing to them when Im due next month.
Apparently if you have kids, your insurance premium goes UP, because they can be a distraction in the back while you are driving! :stupid:
-
Well they own Nat West, Direct Line, Churchill, Admiral (I think), plus a few others.
They also own Privilege and Green Flag (breakdown people).
But RBS do not own Admiral.
Admiral is a trading name of EUI Limited. Which also owns Elephant, Bell, Confused.com and Diamond (the girly insurer).
So think twice next time you get a quote from an insurer as they are often part of a network of firms. Quotes can still be very different though I have found.
-
Chris Knott got my business this time. Very helpful and they are on the end of a phone in this country! Beat 7 other quotes quite comprehensively, plus no additional excess over the compulsory £250. Fully Comp, Protected + named driver £379 :happy2:
-
Signed up with aviva today well happy with my quote nearly £100 cheaper than my renewal, £342 for my s3 8p.
