Title: Which engine mounts for stage 3 GTI
Post by: jasam on January 30, 2018, 10:49:43 am
Hi,

I need to change standard mounts,as they got soft.

There are 4 mounts on engine? 2 for top engine, 1 for bottom(subframe) and 1 dogbome mount?

Which one are most important (to eliminate engine move)?

1 x Gearbox
1 X engine block
2 X large dogbone bushes
1 x small dogbone bush

The dogbone controls the fore and aft pendulum motion.  The side mounts support the engine weight and control lateral movement during cornering.

Replacing all 3 is recommended for maximum wheel hop reduction and cornering balance.

Prices range from ~£50ish for inserts to £300+ for fully reengineered replacements.

Road use with the occasional squirt - just a dogbone upgrade will be fine for most people.

More serious fast road and track work needs all of them uprating - at the expense of cabin refinement.   Vibratechnics are probably the most forgiving ones out there, and also the most expensive.  Revo and most other poly mounts the worst for noise and vibration.

Welcs mate.   You could try brand new side mounts from VW.   They're good for about 1 year - 18 months before they get a bit squidgy again.
