Hello everybody!
I would like to present my car here too, it is still work in progress, so any advice is kindly appreciated.
So here goes:
2008 Skoda Octavia II vRS, candy white (full options)
The car has the following modifications:
- MTM Germany tuned @ ~330HP
- MTM full exhaust system
- K04 turbo kit
- S3 injectors
- S3 brake kit front & rear
- 10 mm spacers front & rear
- S3 FMIC
- EVOMS C.A.I.
- KW variant 1 coilover kit
- EIBACH Anti-Roll-Bar kit + BSH end links
- EUROJET PCV fix (not yet on the car)
Upgrades ordered and waiting for arrival:
- QUAIFE LSD
- SOUTH BEND clutch kit stage 3 (/w litghtened flywheel)
- BSH engine mounts & pendulum
- WHITELINE WALK & bushes
My plan is to reach 350-380hp with K04. Unfortunately mtm would not make the soft for this, they make 380hp only with new turbo, K16 - which I do not want. So, I think I'll switch to REVO.
As hardware I'm planning for:
- HPFP - APR I guess
- new diverter valve
- BSH street catch can system
- S3 camshafts
- IE rods (if I decide to go over 350HP)
- last , but not least some OZ's Allegerita or Ultraleggera
- any other ideeas are welcomed
Photos in following post :happy2:
-
nice list of bits there !
-
you just missed out on the autotech HPFP internals group buy. if you post in the group buy thread dubtek might still have a couple left.
-
First is, of course the last dyno:

Edit: I hope now everybody can see it.

I have not decided yet if I go for a rebuild or just buy an APR. I know is way too expensive, but I understood that is also slightly better than a rebuild.

Ok, photos with the stock car:

the evnts either side of the lower gril are on my to do list to get more air into my ITG intake. how do you open the bonnet with that grill if you dont mind me asking. i really like that grill
-
And I forgot to mention, I want this gauges too, I hope the OSIR o-pod fits my car...

You have to cut a little bit from the hook, but you can open it, you just have to stick your hand a bit deeper inside/under the hood to grab it
I hope you like the car and if you have any comments/ suggestions pls do not hesitate :happy2:.
Last week of April me and some other buddies from our local vwforum will go to Nring for a few days (of tracking). I'm trying to get as much as possible done until then.
-
being honest, i'm not a fan of the eyebrows, but loving everything else so far :happy2:

^ I'm with him, makes the headlights look a bit 'droopy' imo. Other than that I think it looks great in a sleeper car kinda way, you wouldn't expect a Skoda with 330hp! Keep it up :happy2:
-
I kinda like it...gives the car a more agressive look
I won't stop 330hp for sure, At least 350 in one month time.. :happy2:
I forgot to mention I will also install a front mount intercooler, jusy have not decided between Forge and Eurojet...Eurojet is almost 150 usd cheaper and a bit bigger..dont know what to do...
-
do the eurojet brackets fit the vRS though. i know the brackets on the forge IC for the vRS are in different places to the seats and golfs because i bought a second hand one and it wold not go on without fabrication.
I really like the eyebrows actually. loving the look of the car.

Aha, good to know, thx.
Some goodies arrived today:

:happy2: nice car ... happy to find you here too :)

I'm facing a big indecision...
I have the possibility of buying SH Ausi RS6, MTM branded, brakes at abt 1200 euros.
Is this a worthy upgrade vs the S3 brakes that I have now? For trackday use? Nring + Hungaroring?
Should I make a super effort to buy them or should I stick with my current setup?
For trackday I use for the S3 brakes Hawk HPplus pads, the MTM brakes will definitely only go with the stock pads...
The RS 6 brakes will fit my car only if I use a 10mm spacer.
They look like this:

In response to your PM...
Seems like a lot of money to me. I assume they're a 6-pot brembo from an RS4/6? Can you try them for a week or so and see what you think of them??
They're intended for a car with a bigger master cylinder than the Octavia, so the typical problem with these conversions is the pedal is very poor and you get no modulation, just on/off brakes... not ideal for the track.
Ultimately they'll be more powerful than the S3 brakes, but I don't think they'll be as nice to use and I don't think they're worth 1200euros.
I would look at keeping the S3 disc and changing the caliper for a 4/6 pot AP Racing one.
-
THX tony.
The brakes have an 8 pot caliper.
Any ideea how much would COST the recommended calipers from AP Racing?
-
It's a 8-pot Brembo branded by MTM. Should generally work fine but a bit heavy.
MTM sells them as upgrade für GTI, S3 etc. without replacing the master cylinder
but I don't know if it will change pedal feel.
But what about the condition? I doesn' look pretty good. The rotors have to be
replaced or at least refurbished.
I'd go for the RS3 (with Pagid RS4-2) or the VWR kit.
-
Ahh, yes - that 8-pot kit was sold over here by a few companies, it got terrible reviews due to the pedal travel. There simply isn't enough capacity in the master cylinder to make them work properly.
How much is an RS3 kit?
-
Isn't the RS3 the same as the TTRS? if so it will require spacers as will the MTM branded calipers above requires spacers also.
-
Spacers is not a problem, I can go with 10 mm spacers and no rubbing (only if the trunk is loaded at max) which is not the case on the track
Tony, any ideea how much would COST the recommended calipers from AP Racing? Your ideea is very interesting.
-
DaveB knows the exact caliper that works with the S3 disc, I'm sure there were some for sale recently? edit link here (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,26316.0.html)
For ref:
My Alcon calipers were 4-pot and had 38mm & 41mm piston sizes, looking other kits from AP (38/44 iirc?) and other decent manufacturers, this seems to be about the right combination for the Golf platform's master cylinder.
-
Run this past DaveB first to check.
S3 disc is 30mm, correct? I can't see 1mm either side extra being an issue.

THX for the tips Tony!
-
Jake & Tony,
RS3 seems to be nearly the same as TT-RS, but little different on bracket and disc bell
for the necessary clearence with ET50 wheels.
In Germany about 1800,-- € incl. pads. I don't like the extremly large 370 mm discs.
The recommended AP Racing and Alcon Kits are without any doubt even better !!
ps:
RS3: 370 x 32 - S3: 345 x 30
-
Theres quite a bit of bad press with these calipers, one of the big problems is that unless they're fitted properly they will feel shocking.
I've recently had to.....shall we say...enlighten some of the TTRS chaps over on the VAGOC forum that in every single installation I have EVER EVER seen of these calipers they have been upside down so no wonder they feel crap and wear out pads at an accelerated rate
http://www.vagoc.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=7025&page=2 (http://www.vagoc.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=7025&page=2)
Even the big tuners such as AMD/TT Shop and all the others which supposedly know what they're doing never bothered converting them from lagging to leading. The RS3 will be the first VAG with leading 8 pots.
So the pedal feel will be much improved and their is potential for these calipers to become a good upgrade mated with some good pads. Be warned the pads for these calipers retail at around £600 with the VAT and shipping for the RS29's that the TT boys will be fitting cheapies are available from ebay for £80
The small piston sizes on the leading side are only 30mm so should give good bite and the pedal will better than say a 4 pot with the same surface area such as a 40/46.
They aren't worth £1200 with a dodgy paint job, if they've been tracked with OEM pads they'll probably also be warped which is in 9 out of 10 cases the reason why there on ebay or being sold
The calipers need work but would then be relifed as gallardo calipers as the setup is in essence the same
You could also use some AP 362mm discs on custom bells and custom carriers and move the whole assembly inboard on a TT to mitigate spacer requirements, Im talking to somebody on the VAGOC at the moment about doing that - rplacement discs would be 350
The pad is also a 54mm deep pad on a 61mm deep disc which is why you get the big lips and rusty rings on these setups - parts bin engineering at its worst
-
THX, Dave !! :happy2:
The RS3 will be the first VAG with leading 8 pots.
The TT-RS/RS3 is just 4-pot.
-
THX everybody for your answers!
I have decided not to take them.
But still I would like to make some kind of an upgrade to the front brakes and I'm thinking a 4 pot caliper that can be a "bolt on" to my S3 rotors...(what has already been suggested above).
I just need to find the right one, not too expensive of course
-
http://ultimot.de/Komponente.php?id=BK458&TypWahl=221 :happy2: maybe you can take only the calipers from here
-
Hello guyz, I'm back. I've taken a brake because of..well some cash problems, but the car is still here and lots have happend to it.
First of all the SB clutch died on me so I had to replace it with a LOBA.
Then..well, took me abt 6 months, but I did it...made the car 4x4, I found a trustworthy S3 from which I took the parts and my super mechanic made it all possible. Besides this, car also got a new complete 3" full exhaust system similar to Fuscobal's (same guy made it) only I also have a 100cell catalyst (well, I'm eco friendly :) ), H&R sway bars, Forge actuator and Haldex controller taken from the S3.
I've already ordered Michelin Pilot Supersport for street use and a set of Nankang SP2 for track (I've read many good things abt them and they come with a very decent price).
Next on the list is an upgrade to my old KW variant 1, still deciding what to take....Ohlins is kind of expensive..Any suggestion is welcomed.
And of course the brakes..still old S3 setup which I really need to upgrade now.
Right now, with current setup car drives like a dream. Yes, is a bit heavier, but is a true pleasure driving it. Super stability in curves, it is like is glued to the asphalt..I think being a sedan + 4x4 is a super winning combination. Never tested on track yet, waiting for the Nankangs first, but on normla road is as I said...true pleasure.
All 380hp are put to the ground now, car is wilder than ever  , no more torque steer, ESP kicking in all the time, etc.
I will come back with some photos later on, I have the car at the mechanic ftm for some small fine tunes.

Seriously a great move with 4wd, i'm considering it aswell :happy2:

Hi my friend,
Congrats on this bis project! :happy2:
What happened to the Southbend clutch?
-
Photos will come soon, dont worry.
Teo, the release or throwout bearing or whatever is called gave in and this f*cked up the clutch...

OK, one month later..here are the photos

Aaaaaand there are more upgrades on the way
I've been extremely quiet for abt 4 years, but now the time to throw the money in the car-pit has come. We finally have a circuit built just 40km away from Bucharest so is possible to have 2-3 trackdays/month and this..somehow..justifies the madness...
So, these (hopefully) we leave the UK this week:
VWR TRACKSPORT Coilover Suspension (http://volkswagenracing.co.uk/parts/vwr-tracksport-coilover-suspension-upgrade/)
VWR 'Cup Edition’ Front Suspension Upgrade Kit (http://volkswagenracing.co.uk/parts/vwr-cup-edition-front-suspension-upgrade-kit/)

- rear: 1521/daily & XP12/track
Those are already ordered in US. I've been in contact with Ian from Carbotech UK (absolute super guy), but unfortunately UK prices are far way more expensive than US ones.
That's about it. There is going to be a huge transformation of the car and, I hope, that will be positive from all points of view.
I am a bit afraid that suspension is not the best option for daily drive (+ the stronger bushes), but I hope that on the lowest setting would make everything bearable..

Hmmm, new upgrade dilema..
VAG 02Q 4WD transmission (front) Quaife ATB Helical LSD differential (https://shop.quaife.co.uk/quaife-vag-02q-4wd-atb-differential)
Is it worth it?
I am building the car more biased to the trackday and future power upgrade is cooking too.

Unfortunately rear discs have not arrived yet due to a manufacturing problem, will be shipped later on.
Car is already at mechanic and the parts are being installed.

As installatian has started I already encountered a bit of a dilema...how should get acces to the camber plates?

As you can see they are obstructed by that top of the ..whatever is called in English..
Would it be safe to cut/crop it?
Any opinions?
-
Great mods my friend! :happy2:
But I think you'll have to cut, I see no other way.
-
Yeah, VWR just replied to my question, it is very safe to cut it.

Problem solved way sooner than expected :happy2:
Will start to cut.

VWR ‘Cup Edition’ Rear Bush Upgrade Kit (http://volkswagenracing.co.uk/parts/vwr-cup-edition-rear-uprated-bush-kit/)
VWR Monoblock Big Brake Upgrade (http://volkswagenracing.co.uk/parts/vwr-front-big-brake-kit-18/)
VWR Rear Brake Disc/Rotor Upgrade Conversion (http://volkswagenracing.co.uk/parts/vwr-rear-brake-discrotor-upgrade-conversion/)
The VWR BBK and the rear brales will be complemented with CARBOTECH pads:
- front: 1521/daily & XP20/track
- rear: 1521/daily & XP12/track
Those are already ordered in US. I've been in contact with Ian from Carbotech UK (absolute super guy), but unfortunately UK prices are far way more expensive than US ones.

Sorry to drag this old thread up but does anyone have an email address for bogdanbd or any information on if the S3 running gear is a direct fitment to the mk2 octavia vrs
Thanks
Bryan
