Title: Traction control, ABS & Tyre indicator
Post by: Trav Turbo on March 05, 2018, 06:32:05 pm
Hi all this morning driving my Mk5 Gti and noticed Traction control, ABS & Tyre indicator lights all came on. Car felt fine then all the lights went out, then same again later on my way home came on then went out.

Is it possibly wheel speed sensor or something? As had traction light came before on my Mk4 Golf which was that.

Anyone had this on their Mk5 before?

Cheers.

A scan will tell you which abs sensor to replace. When an ABS "wheel speed" sensor is shot it will set off all of those dash lights. There are front and rear Right and Left sensors.

US pn:
Rear right; WHT 003 858
Rear left; WHT 003 859
Front left; WHT 003 857
Front right; WHT 003 856

It could be a sensor, wiring or faulty pickup. fault scan or logging the sensors will show which is giving an irregular reading so you know where to investigate further

With the recent weather, it could just be salt ingress.   My ABS/TC light flashed on last week on a salted road.  Hasn't come back on since.  I just put it down to the salt corrupting the signal.  Water and salt together is a lot more conductive than plain water.

Try jet washing underneath the car and the front and rear hubs if you can, before splashing the cash.

Those are good points made...I would also try a cleaning of contacts before replacing sensors and hope.  :drinking:

If you do end up replacing a sensor...would be a good time to spray its connector with electrical cleaner before plugging into the new sensor.

I had this last week too, deifinitely worth cleaning them before spending money like others have said.
