Title: Heated seat problem
Post by: Meallbhan on March 06, 2018, 10:52:49 pm
Got a 2005 gti with heated seats. I have a problem with the drivers one where it's either on or off. The roller switch even if put to 1, 2, 3, or 4 will put on full power ie position 5.
It would intermittently work at selected values but now only on full blast.
Is this a problem with the roller switch or the seat itself?
Can the roller switch be changed if this is the problem without changing the entire panel?
Thanks in advance.

Im not an electrical expert but this sounds like a resistor issue?

On a similar theme, On my wife's old Corsa, the main cabin fan wouldn't work unless it was on the highest setting - turns out the resister was faulty.

could be a similar issue?

I was thinking the same thing.

Just wonder if the switch is a variable resistor and could be swapped out and the seat itself isn't the problem

Don't know how easy / difficult it is to access the back of the switch, but could you try taking the wires off the driver's side switch, and connecting to the passenger side switch, just to eliminate the seat being the problem??

Good idea.

It's not a hard job to get to the switch, just a pain in the hoop as the stereo and heating controls etc have to come out. It's an idea to try though.

I wonder if 've sell the roller switches by themselves or if a whole able is needed.
