Title: No boost help
Post by: Ant b on March 24, 2018, 05:18:58 pm
a few weeks ago i got a horrible squealing sound on boost, took it to a garage and apparently i snapped a manifold stud blew the manifold gasket, snapped the actuator bracket and the turbo bracket (he welded these)
god knows how as i wasent going fast lol.
anyway i’ve got it back now and it dosent make horrible noises but it has nearly no boost,it has a flash map on it and it went quite well before but now my boost gauge only reads 6psi.i was planning to book in for a stage 2 this month but no point now.car is a mk5 golf gti axx with a gfb dv+ on

I suspect a boost leak somewhere on the welded parts.

He’s only welded the turbo bracket and the actuator bracket tho, would have to be one hell of a boost leak to not get more than 6 psi.
The induction noise is very descreet compared to how loud it was

Check the usual suspects like the DV, PCV, IC seals and small hoses for cracks at the joints

I think the turbo has bought it.   Squealing is the clue to that.

Sounds like wastegate pressure to me. Need to get under the car and check the plumbing, also needs logging

I don’t think the turbo is dead as it still boosted well even when it was making a noise,
Also has a fairly new gfb+ on but considering buying a rev g as I’ve herd storeys about them.
Pcv is new aswell
I’ve just bought vcds so I’m gonna do a full scan but wouldn’t no how to do logs etc

OK, probably not a 'squeal' then as that is the metal on metal rubbing noise they make when dying.   The noise might have been exhaust leaking out of the manifold gasket because the stud blew.  Check for boost leaks and the wastegate as suggested.
