Title: GTI drops temp while on dual carriageway
Post by: ZigzGTI on April 03, 2018, 12:52:10 pm
is this normal? it would be on 90 degrees and as soon as i get on the motorway/dual carriageway it would drop to 45.

i know its cold but my previous car a FL LeonFR-TSI would remain nice and warm.

Anyone have any idea or solution?

No it’s not normal sounds like your main thermostat. Check the hidden menu using the climate control and you’ll find it probably never reaches above 90

Thanks!  i'm not familiar with with the climate menu part but will ask one my mk5 buddies.

Also does this remain the case even in hot weather? ill take it for a drive tonight and see if the temps drops again.

Press ECON and upward vent button at the same time the climate control unit should display all 0’s I think from memory (I would check but cars in getting new top mounts fitted). When the display turns to 0s turn the left knob clockwise and scroll to 19. Then use the middle knob to scroll to 19.2 this will show your engine temp. Probably find it’s in and around 70-80 if your thermostat is gone. I doubt driving in warmer weather will make a difference if it’s stuck open.

It's the main thermostat. If it'll get up to 90 when sitting and then starts to drop when you're moving quickly, it's the thermostat. May as well get the inline one done at the same time :)
