Motors going in for a DSG service soon, figured I’d get the brake fluid changed too
Question, as I have the PP brake setup on mine, will they still do it? Anyone have theirs done with upgraded brakes without any issues at VW?

I had the R32 caliper all round on my Edition 30 and was always serviced at main dealer without any issues. Don’t know if they ever cycled the ABS pump but what ever calipers are fitted it’s just undo the bleed nipples and flush the old fluid through. :happy2:
-
They won't cycle the ABS unless you tell them to. On my last brake service I told them to do that and also the clutch. Black nasty sh*t came out of both apparently.

Sorry guys what do you mean by cycle I.e what is it

There’s a test program in their diagnostics machine which runs the ABS pump whilst they flush it. It agitates the pistons to shift all the gunk.
Or you can find a quiet road and activate the ABS several times before taking it in :happy2:

Thanks Pudding, pardon my ignorance but is the brake fluid change the same as/include bleeding the brakes?
Only asking as I’m hoping to upgrade soon to MK7 calipers
Thanks

After reading a thread on this before saying exactly that I asked Volkswagen and they said as standard they have to cycle the ABS.
He could have just been spoofing to give me peace of mind.
Anyway, they did it for me "apparently". I had no evidence

My local VW dealer was supposed to change plugs / pollen filter / fuel filter as part of fixed service price but didn’t.
-
Ta for the replies
I’ll update the thread accordingly after Thursday when it’s all done (whether or not they service the brake fluid because of the non stock brakes)
Yes, read about the ABS cycle on an 8 year old thread a while back
Ps. Prices gone up for “fixed price servicing”
Dsg now £199 from £184 and brake fluid £69 from £64

How do you know, did you check all the parts? Did they give you a refund?

I’ve owned my car since new and only does @3k miles pa, so it was pretty obvious nothing had previously been changed when it came out of warranty and started being serviced by a trusted independent.

Bit of an update:
They’ll need the car for one more day, they couldn’t get it up on the ramp...guessing because the cars lowered but they said apparently the sideskirts (OEM) are too big
-
OEM sideskirts are too big haha
-
That was my reaction too lol
Worst part is they’ve actually taken the skirts off to get it on there
Wtf indeed

Quite right. It was mandatory to do that on my old Corrado VR6 as well, so I can't see that changing on the newer cars tbh since the technology is the same. Some dealers are just lazy or ignorant. Cutting corners R us.
Brake fluid absorbs water, and that water tends to corrode some parts of the hydraulic circuit that don't see much action - i.e the pump pistons. People who flush it out every 2 years are far less likely to experience problems though.

Ps Cycling the ABS is standard procedure and all part of the brake fluid service I’ve been told by the tech today
Good to know tech knows about it already

Hurrah to someone clued up :happy2:
