Title: Depo headlights
Post by: Adam0604 on April 13, 2018, 03:46:27 pm
Sorry for another thread. Dunno whats happened to this site but it doesnt let me reply to old threads anymore.

Anyway, need your help all.
I have Depo projector headlights, with H7 and D2S bulbs I purchased separately.
Im told I need additional bits to make these bulbs fit though and I quite simply have no idea what.

Can someone please shed some light and ideally link me to what I need!
I would be eternally grateful as Im lost right now.

Well, I bought depo projector headlights and H7 bulbs fitted fine. Does the wiring inside the headlights match your current ones? Its generally a simple two pin plug. I have since fitted LED bulbs with the little fans on the back and they have worked fine as well. What extra bits were you told you needed? Xenon projector headlights DO need extra parts like ballast kit etc, has there been some confusion?

If your still not sure chuck a photo up and we might be able to tell you more about them.

I'm really not too sure dude. I thought the bulbs literally just slotted in and fitted but I'm being told I need ballasts, ignitors and loom adaptor for the bulbs.

These are the xenon headlights I bought - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk5-Gti-GTD-Hatchback-2003-6-2009-Xenon-Headlights-Headlamps-1-Pair/272991582999?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

These are the D2S bulbs I have bought - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Osram-Xenarc-Cool-Blue-Intense-Xenon-HID-Car-Bulb-D1S-D1R-D2S-D2R-D3S-D3R-D4S/272708312167?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

These are the H7 bulbs I have bought - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OSRAM-Night-Breaker-Laser-130-H4-H7-Car-Headlight-Bulbs-Single-and-Duo/382121745809?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Right ok so its actually x4 H7 bulbs I need?

What kit can I get to make the bulbs fit as well?

Best option is to buy led H7 bulbs for the depos. There’s a thread on here somewhere with links etc

As for the the D2S bulbs, 99% sure they just won’t fit even if you buy the igniter, ballast etc

Hi mate, if you want to use the D2S bulbs by all means you can do so using these adaptors and ballast kit. If you're better off with LED bulbs

Depos are very sh*t quality, haven’t got them personally but installed for a mate recently and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. Cheap plastic.
I’d recommend selling them and sourcing some used OEM xenons in good nick

^thanks for the headsup. Im pretty fussy with parts but was getting tempted by the Depo units because I want to try LED bulbs. Can't find any Hella H7 projectors for sale, think they're discontinued?

Legend!! This is what I'm looking for haha.
The H7 bulbs I linked above need adaptors as well though I think? They don't just go in the headlight as it is, need a bulb holder etc. for them?

So lost on all this lol.

Found one left unit for sale on a dodgy site but its 240 euro!!!! Might as well go back to OEM Xenon for that money!

nah you'll be fine as long as the bulb fits into the original location you should be able to use the clips for the H7.

Oh ok, because when the garage looked at fitting the H7 bulbs there wasnt a way to fit them because of the connections in the depo headlights.
Doing my head in trying to sort it all out.

OK so to confirm, you used 4 of those bulbs in total. 2 for main and 2 for low beam? And those connector things fit onto the bulbs and allow them to fit in the depo headlights?

those connector things are canbus error free resistors to prevent your dash showing a fault for lights although you can fit them in without but sent you the links as I don't want you to get pi**** when a canbus error shows up.

Hi all,

I fitted depot headlights to my Jetta last week. Massive improvement! Only thing is, the headlight connectors aren't clipping back into place. They are sliding onto the connection port okay, but the latch isn't catching the plug isn't fully secure. Drivers side light is mostly fine, but occasionally the indicator and sidelight stop working, and I have to open the bonnet and jiggle the connector back on.
The passenger side light is worse, I can only get the indicator, sidelight and high beam to work if I hold the connector on tight. Once I let go they stop working. Any thoughts?

@Ben_VTR (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11666) push them in with force until you feel the click as these are sh** vag designed clips not the headlights then selves.  :happy2: if all fails squirt a little wd40 onto the outer of the headlight connection and try again. Let us know how you get on  :popcornsoda:

You need additional bits to make H7 and D2S bulbs fit because even though they are similar, these are two types of Depo Chrome Ecodes. The main difference is bulb type and the D2S headlights have a hole for the HID wiring. My issue with Depos is that there are people that used them and had issues with height adjusting knob as cheap plastic broke and housing's mounting wasn't able to hold weight of projectors and just broke making entire headlight and retrofit useless. In terms of Vehicle LED Work Lights (https://www.ltprtz.co.uk), I would personally go for new lights just to save myself from near future headaches.
